Welcome to Chicago, just make sure you get a head with a good DI because the overwhelming majority of the venues here seem to not mic cabs >:d Also, message me and I'll tell you my secret spot to park for shows @ Reggies as long as you promise not to share it with anyone.
Might I also recommend there is a really good show Tues 10/3 @ The Burlington if you like post-metal with Snow Burial and Scientist (the original Yakuza guitarist that quit's band). Haven't heard the other 2 bands on the list but those two are worth it alone might be a good idea to go to network. There's also a good show this Wed 10/4 @ the Liar's club that has Faces of the Bog & Disenchanter who are both great. Lots of good musicians will be @ both shows for networking.
I'll probably be @ the Snow Burial/Scientist show unless I get stuck @ work late 50/50. There's also a nifty site called Invalid Link Removed that has an aggregate of all the good hard rock/metal shows in every genre going out a couple months. Hope you like the city!!!
I have a TH 500. Works great and fits in backpack.
The Terror Bass sounded great the few times I've heard it at shows. Their "biamp" (blendable OD) heads sound even better IMO, I think they're called OB1 or something like that. Dig the name too. They may be heavier than you're looking for though.
Just noticed the wicked double neck you have in your avatar...did you keep that one with the big move?
Portability is king in this instance, so the Orange SS series are out. I'm looking for something I can toss into a backpack.
I sold the Ibanez 2404. It was fun to use for a while, but absolutely impractical. It's more a collectors' piece and I simply don't have the space to collect gear anymore.
I'll check that cab out, 212 may be the right way to go as I'll need to be able to comfortably haul the thing up three flights of (narrow) stairs by myself. Dually could be another option, but I need to factor girth as well as weight for the purpose of safely carrying it.
As for the Bluebeard, that was sold and/or traded before the move. I could try to reach out to duder to see if I can get it back...
+1 on the 12's. 2 1x12's may be the easiest way to go for portability. Either way I highly recommend them. You get the girth of 15's but with a ton of punch. They can even handle real bright basses well. I got a Mesa 2x12, but it's heavy...
I feel ya. I've always figured I'd be in the same boat and as much as I would like to keep it, I would just flip it.
Hey folks. I recently did a couple of demos for Champion City Effects that I feel might be on topic and of interest.
This demo is for Champion City’s “Mysterious Mammal” bazz fuzz. It’s the signature pedal of Matt Lynch from the band Snail. It’s a fuzz with low cut and clean blend controls. Matt asked me down to his studio to demo the pedal for the videos. He explains it in the video better than I can (he’s an audio engineer, I’m just a dumb-ass bassist).
This is me through Matt’s Fender 400PS using his ‘77 Fender Jazz.
Here it is using my BAGUITAR (the instrument I use in Aboleth and Trash Titan).
I’m not an endorser, I’m not getting anything for posting these here, I just think it’s a cool pedal and some folks here might dig it as it’s a scene-appropriate little fuzz machine.

The only thing driver size tells you is the size of the baffle hole.
I have an OB-1 300 as well. The blend-able two-channel concept sounds great on paper, but IMO orange f'ed it up by not adding a master on the gain channel. You get blend and distortion, but you do not have real control over the volume jump when you add the gain. I have wasted a lot of time trying to tune the amp so that I can add the additional blended gain with a reasonable change in volume. There's also no eq on the gain. It's essentially an amp with a single-knob distortion blended in. I do like the sound of the (clean) amp in general, though the distortion is a bit fizzy for my taste and I wish I could dial some eq on the dirt to tune it. You can either tune the single eq for the clean sound or the dirty sound, but not both separately.
I would gladly do-over and trade my OB for the other Orange SS that has the multi-band eq and compression - Invalid Link Removed, take the compression pedal off my board and replace with a proper pedal for dirt
Good to know, thanks. To rephrase what I said, I like the fullness yet crisp punch I get from my Mesa compared to my old Peavy 115 Max and the ampeg 8x10 & 6x10 I used to have.
On a side note, I just realized I have owned very few bass rigs...
Bummer, that you can't adjust the volume of the gain channel. I've only heard it used and the guy sounded great.
Simplicity of controls never bothered me too much, but I can wholly understand why someone would. Hell I love one knob pedals and amps hahaha.
Yes the amp sounds great, but it's not *easily* usable for me as two-channel. I mainly run it with the dirt off, unless I feel like wrestling with it for a few minutes between songs. This is for a cover group where I need super-clean on some songs. It works fine if you treat it as a single-channel amp (which the AD200B is anyway) and you dial in your baseline amount of dirt and set eq from there.
I'm used to going dirty all the time. I only use the distortion channel of my Concert Lead, and the D-180 I have dialed for dirt at all times.
I wish there were a good 2 channel bass head with separate eq/volume so I could finally have the clean and dirty tones I want. I know there are workarounds and pedals and stuff, but damn it I'm jealous of guitarists and their channels lol.
This one is pretty decent, and has two separate eq'able channels that you can switch between or combine.
