What to do?
I know of a real deal, tube SVT nearby that is 1) in good working order and 2) selling for cheap, or at least cheaper than what people ask for. Here's my problem, I mean,
1st world problem - I already have an SVT III Pro, with the tube pre-amp (three 12AX7A's and two 12AU7's) and it sounds good. But I am wondering if I am missing out on that definitive SVT, 6x big-ass tubes sound. I also have a bunch of solid state amps I love, and don't know if I should part with them to help fund this, as they are mostly sitting around right now:
- Traynor TS-50B - one of the definitive noise-rock amps, sorta hard to come by and not really cheap to buy anymore (70w max, solid state)
- Traynor MonoBlock II - don't come up that often either, it would probably still work after being run over by a truck (250w max, solid state)
- SUNN Beta Bass - this one was a complete hassle to get working right, but it's clean and it's loud. I have to dime the bass EQ to get any sort of low end out of it. The dirt/OD on it really isn't my favorite, but it's alright (100w max, solid state)
- H/H Bass Machine - even more uncommon, the on-board phaser is one of the best I've heard, super thick and gooey (250w max, solid state)
- Acoustic 320 - this was part of my 320/301 cab craigslist score, and is getting re-capped as of this post. I can flip it without too much regret, not sure about the 301 cab though, that thing sounds killer (300w max @ 2 ohms, solid state)
- SVT III Pro - sounds great, but I don't know if the SVT above is that much greater. FOMO (450w max, tube/solid state)
WWDD? (what would doomers do)
