Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

If you guys had to choose between a mesa 400+ and an ampeg svt 2 pro what would you choose to purchase? Thinking about picking up another tube amp to run stereo with my verellen. Looking for something to push more low cleans as i use the verellen pretty dirty most of the time.
was not a fan of the 400+ so i'd go ampeg. the 400+ had a good clean sound but it falls apart as you turn up the master. loses steam quickly and the highs get brittle. if you plan on running it clean then no issues. then again the ampeg can do either

Either is a good choice. The SVT probably has a bit more low end.

Ok, good to know. Leaning towards the ampeg. I ran into the same problem with the strategy and prodigy when i was testing them out. Must have to be something with the OT or maybe just the way mesa does power sections. They seemed to be super sterile and brittle when turned up.

Id definitely go ampeg, but id say go for the 2 non pro or the svt-300 power amp only over the 2pro.
For some reason some guys say the 2pro is a little short on volume. If it's a secondary amp though that shouldn't be an issue.

I like my Mesa D-180's overdriven tone. But if you're looking for big clean headroom, you won't find it there.

Been talking with Dunwich about getting a DA120 pedal built! Unfortunately I wasn’t after that sound when he did the smaller enclosures back in December with a blend knob but he said we could an acid etched version! Just waiting for him to let me know when he’s got time to start a “custom” build.

That’s how I feel too honestly but hey, I’ll take it and just set it all the way “wet.” The control is replacing the “boost” control which I thought was weird since there’s only 1 footswitch.

I want to say the Blendable DA120 still has a separate Drive and Gain knob that fufills the boost function, unless you ordered something different of course. I got on a similar list a few weeks ago.

As of now Ive got nothing new to offer so I give you this.

Yep that’s the one, it’s the same one that he just did in the much smaller enclosures, but unfortunately he won’t be doing a screenprinted version and can only do the acid etched version since it’s a “custom”. Whenever you get yours and I get mine we can swap if you want because I love the green on the pedal hahaha. I’m pumped about it though!
