I have it wired in as a seperate output simply so that it wouldn't overwhelm anything else in the circuit. I had it paired with a bridge Jazz for awhile, and that wasn't too bad but its currently sharing space in the body with the Fender Cabronita bass Fidelitrons and they're just not high enough output to remotely keep up with it, nor do I think tehy're all that well paired tonally even on seperate jacks.

I need to spend more time, I've been planning to rewire it for a year to clean up my poopie job and replace the abused minipots but never really got arond to it. Hell, it's had three strings for 8 months because I haven't felt like opening the new pack til I had it completely ready to go.

Im wondering what my EB3 pickup will sound in the Bird's neck location, probably not muddy but still aggressive....Im thinking. Problem is if I go through the trouble of carving up the neck routing to fit the EB3 I cant change my mind once its done because there will be a fair gap to fill in after and that is more work than I care to get involved with on this bass. I could put my other Rick 4003 pickup into the neck but I wont get a deeper bottom end thump at all. I may get a damn good Rick vibe but wont be able to use it.

The Lace Alumininininibars (got them seeing how the neck is aluminum yknow) are pretty middle of the road. Compared to the stock Epi pickups, they were brighter, lows and mids are about the same. Not a big step up, but they fit without having to enlarge the pickup cavities. The sound of that bass is mostly generated by the neck.

The green ThunderSquier had a Novak darkstar in it....one trick pony, but it did it well.

I might have some clips somewhere of Alumnibird, but I'm in the middle of migrating to a different PC, and you know how that goes.

I admit that as much as I like the look of Tbirds, I wasn't all over their sound. However, vintage ones sound amazing but still not spanky enough for me. I still would love to have one though.

If you're not a fan of the mudbucker you put in there, you could always get it rewound. If it's too muddy, I think Novak makes an 'unmudbucker.'

Are they actually noticably lighter?

The DiMarzo Will Power is supposedly much more balanced too and not as wooly.

That's hilarious. I was the opposite. Never liked the look or weight for that matter but loved the sound.

Ran TI Flats BEAD into a wall of Fuzz.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

I use 500k volume pots in my basses for the extra treble output. Then I usea Tonestyler to knock that down a bit and give myself a small mid frequency resonant bump.

Lots of ways to change the sounds a pickup can give you.

Used a dimarzio model one (basis for the will power design, just lower output) for many years in a Gibson eb-0 and while it's better than the stock mudbucker in terms of clarity it's still lacking in top end. I'd hesitate to call it balanced. (In terms of wool, nothing beats the 60s mudbucker if that's the sound you're chasing).

Never thought to try that. I know a guy with a tbird and flats, but never heard him play it. I'll have to give it a try, sounds awesome.

I do like the look and the feel of the body is good, but I definitely prefer fender type necks...maybe I should try a fender bird.

Absolutely!, the Fender style neck is the answer to complete playability. This whole tapered neck thing sucks in my opinion, I had never played a tapered neck in my life until I got the Bird and I found out immediately that the playground had shrunk on me and that was irritating as hell. If I had learned how to play bass on a tapered neck Im sure a Fender neck would have freaked me out eventually.

Sound waaay too metallic, kinda like the bottom end would blend in and get lost with the guitars. My Precision has Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders......I know.....but everybody buy's those right?. But!...they are the Doomiest pickups Ive ever owned.
