I’d like a very non fuzzy distortion, not stacked but by itself. I love Voivod but honestly I’m not hearing blacky’s tone really in the various YouTube clips I’ve checked out. But I have heard some cool clips it has a unique sound. I want a tighter distortion on some more thrashy parts. Not that there’s many. Had an aggro and did not like it

For my tight thrash tones I go with a B3K. Decidedly un-doom sounding, but if you want Thrash it’s my favorite. Low blend, high gain, filters off.

Hey all! I've been pondering Al Cisneros' performance on Sonic Titan for a while. What really gets me is that he has such an aggressive and pronounced attack on this track, but I don't get how. Usually when you talk about pronounced attack, you're talking pick and bridge mic, but as we know, Al plays basically the opposite of that. How do you guys think he did it? Did he make an exception? Is it the Rick's double outputs at work?

Here's a video from '13. Sonic Titan is the first song after the intro. He's playing at the neck but his tone is a lot more fuzzy (likely due to the change from I assume Green Matamp on the original to Ampeg) with much less attack, especially apparent on the bass-only part circa 7:40 in the video. Ofc they filmed Matt taking a whiff instead of Al's bass part hahaha

What @bassboysam said. That and he probably plays pretty heavy with his fingers. I tend to play with a heavy hand and seem to get close to my pic attack especially with dirt.

Well, I can tell ya, those 12s bring the doom and the boom!

Love me some 12s. But I'm open to any size as long as it has heft and some articulation.

I posted a youtube link to an acoustic punk song called "Thatcher ****ed the Kids" in reply to a post speaking fondly of her.

Yeah, I was in that thread. Weird. “No, we didn’t intend for the depth knob to do anything really, it’s functioning as it should. The mod will void warranties.” That’s pretty much the official stance. I tried to love the Boneshaker, as I’m a HUGE DOD fan (and Black Arts!) but this one just didn’t do it. Did the same and flipped it later.

Yeah, it's odd. IMO it would be a better pedal without the Depth knob. I actually like mine a lot as almost an amp sim.

Yeah ive always played like the bass owes me money. I like alot of clang and grind though. It sounds like a slightly rounder pick attack to me.

Sleep and subrosa was great last night. Im not sure subrosa hit so well in tulsa, but i enjoyed them. I think they were a little slow and quiet in parts for the kinds of crowds that come out in tulsa.

First impression, with my jazz bass, i like it. It is brighter middier than my bass big muff. The muff does smooth and bassy or fizzy. This has a middy grindy sound. I like the way the top end sounds, though the low end can be a bit muddy. Still figuring out all dem knobs. With the vol knob at about 9 o clock and the gain at about 2 o clock, its more overdrive-y distortion. Its a keeper, especially for the cheap price.

Al's attack is not that heavy, or doesn't look that way watching him. I think he's got a hard 'flick' almost like typing hard on a typewriter. Though he plucks on the downstroke, if that makes sense. And hedoesn't tap the strings ala Entwistle. He tends to play over the neck where it meets the body, geezer-esque.

I tried running it after the muff and right now I’m trying it before it. I feel like I’m close to getting it to do what I want it to, just haven’t nailed it down yet. I think it’s a very useful pedal

I didn't, but was pleasantly surprised at how quick I got mine (yesterday). I've unboxed it, but yet to spend some quality time with it. I'm excited to really put it through it's paces.

The the string has more flex at the neck, ergo will get closer to the pickups and mimic hard hits, that may be how he gets it if he doesn't play that hard.

That’s where I thought it would do best but in my experiments the muff was too hot and over compressed going into the Bone. I’ll probably put it after the muff again at some point.. I’m trying to get a huge fat sound out of the muff (tone knob between 7-11 o’clock) and push some mids with the Boneshaker. I’m having some success pushing the muff after it. I think I just have a lot more experimenting to do before I figure out what works for me.

Haven't had time to mess with it, but definitely going to try it. Id think the boneshaker first, muff second in the chain. Hmm could be interesting
