I have a deluxe bass big muff, so it has a clean blend. Thats why i put it second, plus it sounds better to my ears like that. Muff first is too compressed sounding.
Jazz bass->boneshaker->deluxe bass big muff->pork loin->800rb.
Oh, and the jazz is downtuned to C#
Yessir. In this config, the pork loin tames the bit of clankiness from the 800rb, and is bassically a bass boost, not unlike an active bass's, the big muff brings the MEAT of the fuzz, and the boneshaker ( set with distortion and gain down, mids boosted all the way, bass boosted a touch, and treble left off) gives me the full bassy brunt of the big muff plus a middy tone the cuts thru which is very much a 'cocked wah' kinda sound.sounds really nice!! Cocked wah but with the bassy boom behind it. Me likey
Boneshaker and pork loin without muff gives some snarl and overdrive but nothing too unruly. A good angry sound.
No, i don't turn the pork loin off, ever. Lol

I run my fuzzes kinda weird. I usually do high on the volume knob, low on the fuzz knob.
I like that as well. Most dirt really, unless I'm trying to change the flavor. I feel you get more amp like feel, subtle compression and bloom that way.
Thats how i tend to run mine as well. Tends to be more touch sensitive so i can clean it up if some by playing extra lightly when needed.
Highly recommend it. Even with less touch sensitive amps, it gives more life and nuance to the sound for me anyway.
I wonder whether many people do as such. I've noticed some pedals really open up when run this way, ergo DOD250. Though cranking the gain and boost the volume a little is one of my favorite sounds. Gets into fuzz territory with a dirty amp.
My amp is pretty much always overdriven to some degree, so for fuzz a little goes a long way for me. Only reason my Dunwich custom muff has the fuzz turned up halfway is because I specifically requested that it be comparatively low gain as one of the custom features. At the time I was using a Way Huge Swollen Pickle and an EHX Bass Big Muff, both with the "sustain" fuzz controls at almost nothing. The Dunwich does the job of both.
My Boneshaker is actually on my mini-board. I use it as a sort of "overdriven amp" modeler for my rock band when I'm not going into my own amp. That's why I run it after the fuzz.
I run the megalith super fuzzy cus thats just kind of what it does. I run the volt thrower at the full 18v in ehich it doubles to 36v. Tons of headroom. Then i run the volume up round 2 o clock or so and the gain at about 8 o clock, into a lightly driven meatsmoke. Gives me my favorite bass tone. Then i can just kick on the megalith if i want to make it sound like its all coming appart.
10 years ago when this thread first got started the bluebeard users had what was called the mudbucket setting. fuzz and tone at min, volume to taste. surprisingly that setting sat in a mix really nicely. not very fuzzy sounding but it has a really aggressive low mid snarl that works in a lot of situations.
One of the reasons I kinda hate tone knobs on fuzzes is that I really like the chainsaw sound of the mids and highs towards higher tone settings, but on most fuzz pedals that cuts out way too much low end.
So I got my Wilson Freaker Wah in the post today. I’ve had a play with it and it’s great. But I have an issue..
I’m not sure it’s as good as what’s already on my pedalboard.
I’m currently running a crybaby that I’ve modded significantly. I’ve always been on the fence as to whether I like it or if it’s too harsh but in comparison to the Freaker i think it’s nicer.
I’m a bit deflated really. I’m going to record some audio files tomorrow, if I get time. Maybe see if I can get some opinions from you guys.

Typically how I run most of my dirt. My Pharaoh Supreme has fuzz and volume about 10:00, tops. Exceptions occur with blends - my B3K has gain at 3:00, but low blend at 10:00. My Pork Loin is probably the most gain on the knob at noon.
Even all of these are still low on the volume for what I need.
That's always been a frustration of mine. If anything, that's why I try to find ones without a tone knob or with a blend.
@bassboysam I've never tried one, heard about them though. Are they similar to a muff? Sounds like that setting adds a ton of woolliness, do you lose any attack?
@simon88wilson I love my crybaby, but I've never seen one like it. It's the white bass version, but has a footswitch. I love using cocked wah settings on it, but I'm bummed out that there's a volume drop when I switch it on. If it weren't for the cocked wah tones I love, I'd probably have the normal one that activates when you start moving it.
