Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Precisely. I bought it because it sounded great in demos, and also got the blow out price. It’s worth the $35, but I had other pedals I preferred, and knew I could easily get more money for it, so off it went.
I’ve had the bone shaker for years now. Sucked so bad on guitar I tossed into my shame box and forgot about. I paid 30$ on eBay so not a biggie. Guess I’ll give it a go on bass but I’m really digging the black arts LSTR pedal for fuzz right now.
One thing I’d like to say is a big thanks to you guys for suggesting the rb800. Had my first gig with it last night and it sounded great. I was not familiar with GK and figured it wouldn’t work for down tuned doom, mainly cuz you don’t see it used by too many in the genre but it absolutely kills. When I searched this forum I saw many post on the wattage being underwhelming but I had it on 3 last night and no pa thru the fridge and honestly I was probably too loud.

Yeah, I bought one a few months ago. Didnt lovd it at first, honestly. But now I dig it way more than my Trace head. It's a monster! And for about $400, ya cant beat it!
That's been my thoughts on many of the classic and underrated lead sleds. $400 goes a long way on one of those and most of em are tanks.
Good point of view, in my limited use I feel like it's really just a flexible amp sim or preamp tucked into a pedal. It definitely doesn't seem to work in the way you would thont it does.

GK works for EVERYTHING. You just have to set the controls right. I know that probably covers plenty of brands, but I love my GK. I never have amp GAS, and if I do it’s just for bigger or different GK.
That's my feelings on my Ashdown. Considering all the different peeps who use GK for all different strokes, not surprised to hear it's versatile. I've tried one of those micro 112 combos and a neo combo. Both sounded solid, already had my ABM then though.
Amen! Sometimes I think it's just bait, others remind me of why I sometimes have little faith in humanity.
I'm beginning to see the (GK) light. The 800Rb plus my Pork Loin = super thickness. Got a chance with an empty house to turn it way up. Ooooooooooooo
I thought I'd introduce myself to this thread. Seeing as there always seems to be something great going on here and i'm always looking for something new to listen to or to look into buying.
I play in a stoner/fuzz band called Black Atlas. We're just about to go into the studio to record our debut album, which I'm very excited about.
Gear list:
Bass - Ibanez ATK300, Musicman Stingray and a Weird Franken Precision with MM Bridge pickup and wiring with a Ricky Neck pup. What can i say i like a certain style of pickup
Effects - I make my own effects pedals as a bit of a hobby called SWFX Pedals, generally based on some well known designs with tweaks. At the moment i'm running: Digitech Bass Whammy > SWFX Myota (Civil War Muff with big tweaks and blend) > SWFX Splinter (Rat based Fuzz) > SWFX Bone Tender (Jumbo Tone Bender Clone) > SWFX Broken Rodent (Rat based distortion) > Dunlop Crybaby (soon to be replaced with a Wilson Freaker) > Korg Tuner > Boss BF-2 > SWFX Echo Base (Delay)
Amps - Ashdown Abm Evo III with a Barefaced Super Compact (Small i know compared to some of the goliath ones in these threads but I have a small sports car so its all i can fit in! I am hoping on adding another super compact to it at some point)

Ditto here, but with a 700RB-II (and 400RB-IV). Sooooo good.
Killer set up dude, dig the rig, pedals, and the basses. That frakenbass is wicked. I love the sound of a hot Ric neck pup.
If you feel like experimenting, try a vintage sounding Tbird neck pup in that spot. I found out after I put one in that Lemmy used to do that prior to the high gains being produced.
No slouching on the pedal artwork either. What's the echo base based off of? Way cool man, you get much business locally, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks for the tip, i may have to have an experiment and see what it sounds like with a Tbird pickup. I'm going to refinish it in charcoal frost this summer so may have a play when its back in pieces.
The Echo Base is basically a deep blue delay with added tails switch and tap tempo and a few other things going on in it. I get a slow but steady bit of business locally, but i mostly just do it for the fun of it. The two guitarists in my band use pedals made by me. It's difficult to get people out of the mindset that just because i made it doesn't mean it is cheap!
On couple songs we play I’d like to have another dirt sound than fuzz. Any y’all use the blower box or landphil by idiot Box?
Just curious, what kind of cab do you play thru? My 800rb goes to a GK neo 4x12. I turn the tweeter off. I never had 12" bass speakers before, but I really like the air those puppies can move.
Hey all! I've been pondering Al Cisneros' performance on Sonic Titan for a while. What really gets me is that he has such an aggressive and pronounced attack on this track, but I don't get how. Usually when you talk about pronounced attack, you're talking pick and bridge mic, but as we know, Al plays basically the opposite of that. How do you guys think he did it? Did he make an exception? Is it the Rick's double outputs at work?
Here's a video from '13. Sonic Titan is the first song after the intro. He's playing at the neck but his tone is a lot more fuzzy (likely due to the change from I assume Green Matamp on the original to Ampeg) with much less attack, especially apparent on the bass-only part circa 7:40 in the video. Ofc they filmed Matt taking a whiff instead of Al's bass part hahaha

it's the shvtty DS1 or whatever Boss distortion he uses. pretty sure he splits his signal and the higher end goes into a guitar amp and cab.
The Blower Box is my primary dirt pedal and I will never part with it. IMO it is one of the best bass dirt boxes out there.
GK Neo 410. Tweeter on about 10:00 on the amp. I hear nothing but praise for the 412s, but I wanted the low end of the 410.
Used the Blower Box for a bit. Always too fizzy for me. I now have the Volt Thrower and prefer it quite a bit. Though both are behind my Pharaoh Supreme for doom fuzz. Also behind my modded Pork Loin for doom, though it’s an OD and not a distortion or fuzz, so not quite an even comparison.
What are you looking for in the tone? I could just list boxes I like, but that probably wouldn’t help without context.
