Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

@Batsquatch me and the goofball listened through the EP yesterday at dinner. She was dancing quite a bit, she approves as do I.

I dig how there were some parts that reminded me of some sludge punk band I used to see locally. Vocals fit everything well too. Solid riffs and tasteful wah too.

@bassboysam we also went back through Nacarat, forgot how great that album is. Love how it goes a bit everywhere.

Honestly it's awesome how there's so much great music posted up here. Stuff I'd possibly never hear otherwise.

Here's the munchkin dancing and eating. I think she may be your guys' youngest fan haha. I'm so stoked how much she loves music.

Impedance it is! Works perfectly with my tuner between the PL and my envelope filter. Any way to permanently “fix” the impedance issue sans tuner? I’ve modded my PL, so it’s not like I’m worried about warranty or anything.

They are based off a specific vintage pickup Geezer had, I think they are fantastic for Doom/metal in general though, tons of mids to help cut through.

I mean you could always install a simple buffer in the loin or build a little passive buffer box to put after the loin or even at the end of the chain before the amp to just bring your levels and impedence to the right spot before hitting the amp. Im not an electrical engineer so actually finding the source of the mismatch in the porkloin is above my head!

Man I had one just like that in black and really regret selling it. The stock pickups kick like mules.

So, looks simple enough to build with my limited soldering skills. However, there are no pics of a complete build, and the links in the description of the product don’t seem to work. Is there a passive option? It lists jack options, including power jacks. There was mention of passive buffers before, which would be ideal as I’m close to out of power jacks. Just wish I could see more about this thing. Thanks!

I think me using the term passive buffer was a misgnomer. I meant like an always on buffer. One you dont need to switch on. As far as i can tell a buffer requires power to work. Something like such. You could always take the ic buffer listed above and solder it in to the power and output from the pork loin inside the pedal assuming there is such space in it. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

If you look at the PCB in the picture, there's places where you can solder wires to the connection on the Pickle to piggy back electricity, that should be no different than using a Y cable outside the jack, except it's internal to the box, and then you just connect up the audio in and out to the buffer before/after the connecitons on the Pickle.. or I mean, I assume. I'm not an electrician.

But it's designed to be used in such a manner, as well as a standalone box, which you could also do, and just use a Y split for the power cord. poopie, my Voodoo Labs Iso5 has had a power port split to provide power for 3+ pedals more than once, the power draw for dirt pedals is pretty stupid low.

All buffers are going to need power, though.

So basically, I can out this INSIDE my Pork Loin and require no extra power plugs on my 1Spot? That sounds ideal. I’ll have to look into this. Thanks!
