Any other social media that you guys'/gals' bands use? Facebook still a thing? I haven't had an account there in ages.

I don't know. I don't like it, I think I'll go for the suicidal strategy of NOT having a FB page for the band. So I avoid the embarassment of NOT having a "like" that is not from my close relatives

I'm pretty meh on all that, but I'm over 40

I was planning on getting all up in IG but the band fizzled out before that could happen.

They are beastly. But no worries, they pop up all the time. I think I paid $450 for mine, but tha was with the gator case and it was crazy clean for a 1990. Beat to poopie ones are all over the place, though yeah $200 would've been a steal. They are sleepers for doom.

The power amp design is excellent, so it gets musically mean as it is turned up. The EQ is straightforward too. I find the scoop/boost/cut switches useless. I run the EQ whatever makes the bass sing, vol at 12noon, boost at 12 noon, master until the walls shake. Lol

The new cab is an ol Peavey 412f. Local pawn shop had just slashed the price down to $150. Couldn't say no! My biamping dream comes true. The tyler and the 412f bring the nasty, and the gk adds the boom. Psyched for band practice tonight!

I've noticed the same about steals. They're always around when I'm broke or need to move other stuff first. That's one of the few benefits of PayPal credit and a GC card. You can make small payments and pay it off in a few months without interest if it's too good to pass up...though ya gotta keep the balance in check.

Biamping rules. Between the guitarists newly completed full stack and my rig, we were moving serious air in the room. I love biamping, clean blends are probably more 'practical' but theres no comparison imo in tone. I get all the tight low end boom from the GK with all the fuzzed out awesomeness. And clean, I love the upper end of the Tyler over the GK. I was floored! Even the drummer raved about how good it sounded

Hello folks, this isn't particularly doom-y, or even bass-y, but I did a demo vid of some Idiotbox effects of mine that are rare-ish, and pretty cool. It's demo of two mystery delays and a fuzz pedal. I don't play bass in this vid except for the outro, but I thought you guys might like it anyway. I got Mystery Effect of the Month #4 today, and I do plan to demo it on bass, mostly because it totally rules as a bass effect.

In, what appears to be a continuing series of mine, here is another pedal for you to check out.

This combines the Boss Blues Driver and the JHS Angry Charlie circuit into one box and lets you run them separately, in series or in parallel. Anyone that has stacked fuzzes, OD and/ or distortion pedals knows what kind of amazing results can be had with some time, patience and imagination. This pedal takes two iconic OD circuits and gives you the tools to intertwine them in any way you choose. You can get a treble-ly grind, ala Motorhead or a deep, doomy sludge fest ala [insert your favorite doom bassist here].

To start down the doom path with this pedal:
JHS level: mid-point (50%)
JHS tone: completely counter clockwise (0%)
JHS drive: completely clockwise (100%)

JHS level: (30%)
JHS tone: completely counter clockwise (0%)
JHS drive: mid-point (50%) and higher, depending on taste and want/ need for more grit

I'll be experimenting with combining this awesome combopedal with other OD & Fuzz pedals to see what other sonic treasures I can unlock

I have a Facebook account I use solely to keep track of bands and shows, because I'd miss out on a lot if I didn't. Spirit Adrift really made my day recently when they said they'd be using their email list for announcements. They still use Facebook, but (presumably) one could just be on their email list and not miss anything. I really wish more bands would either ditch Facebook/Instagram, or use an email list so fans don't miss out by not being on Facebook/Instagram.

Same. I love all of Om's stuff, but I think they got better with each release.

They were playing a bit of new material in the shows I saw in February/March.

Me too. But I find very few have the courage to do without, even people into all the punk/hardcore/DIY/ethics blah blah. Dunno, I would not be happy my band to be associated with something like that, but as I said, it's almost like a suicide.

The problem with email lists is that they are a pretty antiquated way of communicating. I don't think people check them as much, I bet we all get tons of spam email, and it is very point to point. Social Media is little more broadcast, and bands are always hoping to pick up one more fan.
I don't use my FB as much as I used to, but I don't dislike it.

I hope OM is working on something. That's a band I never expected to like, but ended up digging anyway.

I can only speak for myself but when I see an email from, for example, Sisters in Christ or Sigur Ros I read it every time because they don't send out a ton of emails and when they do it's always useful information (tour dates, new releases, etc). Other bands will spam out a ton of ******** and yeah, a lot of those emails end up getting ignored.

At the end of the day it all comes down to what the band's goal is, IMO. If it's the biggest audience then yeah they're going to have to play the social media game ("tell us what you think in the comments!"). But on the other hand I wouldn't say it's the end of the world if a band opts out of that crap.

If people have signed up for emails from a band, it can definitely work, because someone has already volunteered for that. They don't think it is silly, and they want the information. However, for "the kids" email is often seen as something old people use at work. They also think Facebook is for old people, so there you go. You can't win.

Yes. Interesting stuff gets lost in an everflowing stream of memes and news and distracting stuff and people like me scrolling and scrolling without even paying attention.

Looking for a recommendation on a decent 'starter guitar' that will accommodate a couple wants from my untalented, bass-playing tendencies. I like to write/record stuff at home solely for my own entertainment. A lot of it ends up being stoner-rock and doomy stuff that's very riff/groove based, and I'm using a fair amount of effects. I'm tired of the limitations of aping guitar by using bridge pickup > octave up > effects. Plus, I still end up playing guitar parts like I play bass. So I'm looking to get a guitar to start tinkering on and recording with. Having said all that, I have a few basic criteria.

-Budget of $350/$400 max (would prefer to spend less).
-Would like something that sounds meaty, but clear when down-tuned. Nothing too twangy.
-Would probably benefit from a guitar with wider-than -average string spacing to make the transition from playing my bass to working on guitar a bit easier.
-Kind of up in the air on whether I should be shooting for a flatter or more rounded fretboard. I prefer 10"+ board radius for bass, but maybe that changes when I'm playing guitar chords? Open to suggestions here.

Yes

I record bass, guitar & keys. I have 8 guitars, all with different pups and pup configurations, so that I can create virtually any guitar tone (I also have 8 basses for the same reason). You don't need to go that far though!

To start, I'd suggest an active guitar with 2 humbuckers. The Schecter Damien 6 is a great example and can be easily found used within your budget. My reasoning is thus:

• The 2 humbucker config will allow you a HUGE range of tonal possibilites
  
• Active vs. passive for home recording purposes means less having to worry about getting levels that you want/ need via your audio interface/ DAW, etc.
• Schecter makes a high quality instrument for the price point (no need to worry about finicky instruments... just plug, play, record and enjoy life instead of having to tweak the neck or intonation or figure out which cap to replace with which value, etc. (As you get more into guitar, you'll head down that rabbit hole on your own, just like we all did/ do with bass )
• Tons of beef, easy to downtune (kinda made for it) Definitely not twangy!
• Don't worry about string spacing and FB radius... you'll end up spending your life comparing specs rather than playing/ recording Find a guitar that feels good and plays well. Practice with it for a couple of weeks. You'll completely forget about string spacing
