Thats true, its probably also changing from a tiny concrete room with a low ceiling to a huge shop that we are in now. Probably less low end buildup than was in that basement. It was definitely too bright even in the room. I was just surprised because we tune to B and ive always thought of us as a pretty tonally dark band. Then i get it cranked up in the shop and its like being hit in the ear with ice picks.

Ive bought earasers for everyone in the band just trying to get it to where we can all hear eachother. Foam ear plugs do terrible things to what you hear for sure.

I use earasers as well. Initially they took a bit to adjust to but I can still hear the high end pretty clearly. They have done a really nice job of mocking cymbals down to a comfortable level for me.

I tried some etymotics and foam plugs from work so I can’t say about those others. I’ve had the thought they weren’t doing much until I took one out and realized that they definitely work.

I would find it hard to believe they’re too big though. They’re a pretty flexible material and I’ve got small ear openings and have no issue getting a good fit.

This came in today. It was like $180 off retail because it has a cosmetic flaw.

So that means old Peavey lead sleds are gonna skyrocket in price in the next decade...should grab a couple now.

Never knew that. Do they cut pretty even? I kinda got used to hearos, etc. But they still kinda bugged me.

Nice find! I hadn't heard of them. I normally don't like screaming vocals as much, but his register is right at the sweet spot for me to also think of it as musical rather than noise.

And hello all fellow stoners and doomers! I've been here at TB for about a year, but this is my first post here. I'm finally a part of a stoner project that I really like (my other primary projects have been mostly in the style of post-rock or pop-rock), so getting to play the music I enjoy is an incredible experience. It's only a side project, so we don't meet up too often, but it's still really refreshing.

So, and thread consensus on specific amps and/or basses? I know that tone is totally subjective, so the right answer is whatever works for me, but just wanted to hear ideas. Right now, I'm honestly pretty happy with my bass and rig. My main is a Gibby Tbird (I sometimes frequent their thread, but it's hard to keep up :) ). And my two rigs that I alternate are a GK MB Fusion as well as an Orange OB1, though I think the Orange will eventually be sold to help consolidate a lot of extra gear I'm not using much.

I primarily play with a pick, and a mild to moderate level of gain, as I find too much gain loses some note definition. My guitarist is doing the (possibly stereotyped) SG into an Orange Rockerverb thing, which hey, if it ain't broke... We did look a little funny when I used to play the same color SG bass into my OB1 stack.

And as far as music appreciation, I love Sabbath as the guys who started it all, as well as more modern bands like High on Fire, All Them Witches, Corrosion of Conformity, Baroness, etc. I really love discovering new music though, so shoot me anything that interests you.

i've never played an OB1 but from the samples i've heard it should get you that old school sabbath tone more so thank the GK, if that's the objective

i had one when they first came out about 10 years ago. it was not my favorite. it's a little starved for headroom. it reminded me of the sound of a mixing board clipping. as a clean boost or very light drive itt was good. anything beyond that it just sounded like a piece of gear not working as intended to me.

my guitarist has used it ever since. totally different beast with guitar.

the Dunwich Bass Overdriver is pretty smooth and transparent with a good EQ. i think Nick is taking orders for those right now.

I also like the Fuzzrocious Demon but it is more cloured, with a distinct mid bump.

Bluebeard with the gain at min is a nice OD.

Agreed that the Barbershop falls a bit short. The Dunwich Bass Overdriver is based on the tube screamer, but with lots more EQ options. You might also check out the Dunwich ODB for something more transparent. I think the Southampton Fifth Gear is a solid choice too. It can do smoother low gain, but it can get gnarly if you crank the gain/heat. There's a slight bump in the low mids, but it just gives you more cut - I didn't find it overly 'colorful'. If you really want options and aren't tight on board space, the Damnation Audio MBD-1 is grdefinitely worth checking out...
