Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Then again I'm all for dual dirt pedals. Love the idea.

As a simple bogan, I just like fancy boxes with lots of little foot switches coz they look more impressive.

Well... Seeing as I have a ton of parts for both of those...

I guess I'll throw something up when I get one of em done...

I've been telling myself I wanted to do this for awhile now, I used to love the sound of my EHX Big Bass Muff pushed with an overdrive, and while the 250 wasn't the one I really liked, it's the one that's available. :)

Heck, like I said, I'm just a sucker for two footswitches, and often thought about trying to remount my BBM and a 250 (when they were fitty bucks) into one box by just twisting a few wires together.

But, if you're going to be making a Muff, supposedly the GGG Tuned verison is nearly the same as the Blue Beard.

I'm kinda very amused at the idea of the Praise/Worship names, though, and if you don't do this (or I can't afford it; dude, f'ing braces are gonna cost me $6K per kid! That's $12,000 in one shot, ***!?!) I'm gonna have to steal it in the future.

edit: huh, it blanks out the acronym for What The Flip? That's.. surprisingly over the top.

Fsk works, just sayin ;P

I'm with you on driving the muff with some OD... its super nasty and sounds killer. I'm basically using an OCD to that effect right now and its silly how fun it is.

I've done 3 GGG muff versions so far, mine doesn't have diode switching/bypasses yet, but the other 2 I did had em and they're badass. I haven't gotten around to it yet but I want to mod mine for diode switching and then tone stack bypass here in the near future. I might try to marry it with a DOD250 board when i do that as well.

And uh. Yeah. I'm planning on making two of these two pedal monsters, I'll let you know when I wrap the first up. lets just say, it'll be reasonable.

yeah... Ive got the SVT300 power amp with the Reiner 6SL7 Preamp. I want a Mesa 190 to pair up with the Reiner 12AX7 pre. Right now im running that into a sunn 1200s for maximum heft, but I want TOOOOOOBS.. Basically I want my monster tube rig, and a little brother rig.

That makes sense. I’m essentially doing the same with mine, which it’s perfect for. It’s a great power amp. I thought I saw one here recently fs, that might’ve been the old peavy one though.

Mesa and Orange are both quite easy to find used. Aaand... any good Ampeg cab in the higher price range?
Weight is not a big deal, if I buy two single separate cabs they can't weigh too much in any case, and I don't plan to move them too often (it's unlikely that I will go on tours or stuff like that :roflmao:).
What about something like a 1x15 for the low end and something different for the high end? That might make sense since it sounds like the high end is particularly important for you...?

Do you have Schroeder cabs in Europe? I have two of their 1x15's and they sound good, and the tweeters have their own level knobs. Mine are always turned off only because that's my sound, but when they're turned on, there's plenty of high end coming out. Like an ugly amount, if that's what you want. They're light too. They cover them with some kind of bed liner/Duratex stuff so they're super durable.

I kind of get a talk show/hi-fi bass cab vibe from them though.

hitn' the spot right now.

How much, I want one!

But I'm not fsck'ing the file system on my Unix computer, it's completely irrelevant.

(nerd joke i suspect i'm alone in being amused by in this thread)

Nah, I was a Unix admin for 12 fscking years.

I support a Unix product now. It pays much better, and I'm not on call 24/7. :rollno:

I have never heard about them before, but I see there is a good number of classifieds with these cabs. All of them are 2*12 or 2*10 tho.

Don't discount 12s or 10s, especially from those higher end cabs. They can be just as deep and bright as other cabs. Granted I have no experience with Schroeder. My Mesa powerhouse 212 has tons of beef and can get insanely bright. I don't even use the tweeter either.

The powerhouse cabs are hefty and very deep, like almost as deep as they are wide. But they sound amazing. The one I use is loud too. I rarely need my amp cranked either even when playing loud as hell.
