Welp I have major GAS now haha. I've been curious about the TFR since it came out but wasn't sure about it since it's not bass specific. There was a lack of vids with bass when I was first interested in it. That Blower Box seems pretty awesome though. I might have to try and get my hands on one. Their site says sold out. Any other places to get them?

Well, it seems my stoner-y jam situation may have died on the vine. Haven't heard from the guitarist in about 10 days, sent him a text yesterday, and nothing back. If it's dead, I say "Poo" because the one jam was pretty fun.

Oh I know. I like a raunchy tone so I run a B3K which is always on into a dirty amp. I need something that will kick things up a notch into full blown distortion in certain parts.

That would be awesome man! I may have found one in the classifieds that went unsnagged. I'll let you know if it ends up I can scoop it up. Post is a few weeks old though so not sure.

I have a rat tail lying around actually but found it didn't hold the low end enough. The band I'd be using it in plays in Bb standard too so my job there is pretty much just make things as beefy as possible.

I've been wanting to try out the Blower Box, also the Barber Gain Changer. I've used the W&C PPB as rough sounding overdrive. Turning the tone up, the gain down and playing with the blend to get it out of fuzz territory and something closer to a RAT. It's not perfect for that use, but pretty good in a mix I think. Here's a comparison clip I did between it and my RAT with some clean blend on it. The Wren & Cuff is first, RAT second.

I'd say the first sample was my fave. Not a huge difference. Just a little fuzzier with the second one. Just a little.

I'm thinking of getting a different preamp for my Spector with an active/passive switch... seems that most people use passive instruments in the DOOM muzaks. I also have a passive bass that I've been using, but it's not as comfortable... AUGH!

Why do I always find one favorite instrument and then try to modify the beans out of it to do EVERYTHING?

You could swap out the volume knob for a push/pull active/passive toggle. Just keep your current pre, if you like the sound of your pickups passive.

Nah, just hang tight, if you do find they have a different bassist now, stop by practice randomly and tell them you are a cop and confiscate their stuff

I always though that preamps with a passive/active switch did something extra, but if all they do is bypass the preamp and send the full hot output of the pickups to the amp, then I may as well.

Morning gents.
Anybody have much experience with Orange Terror Bass amps? Just got one in and haven't gotten to use it with my pedals or in a band situation. Just tried it for a minute plugged straight in to make sure it actually worked. Pretty stoked to try it out. I've been using an Ampeg Micro VR since my Orange AD200B has been sidelined for months with broken fuse caps. Been waiting for some new ones for like 6 months and was missing that Orange tone so got a Terror Bass 500 on a whim. I enjoyed the portability of the ampeg but it never really had enough juice for shows.

Think I was the first or one of the first in this thread to grab a TB. Bought mine on a whim because GC was selling a used TB1000 for like $680. Bought mine as a suitable backup for my SVT-7 Pro and ended up selling the Ampeg. I really love mine. Great rock tone, sounds great plugged straight in, and works really well with my pedals. Combined with the EGC it gives me a pretty killer aggressive rock tone that still has a very large full range sound. Not to mention it has volume for days. Buy a custom headshell from JMac

Some times they make they make one of the other pots a passive tone control. Not sure about the wiring on that.

I'll have to do some more research, I always thought that they *must* do something along those lines. It also may not work if the volume/bland potentiometers are 25K or some other lower value.

Do you guys really find that much diversity between all of these dirt pedals on bass? I mean I hear subtle differences between my BB and toast's Grey Stache, but I feel like once the whole band is playing that it doesn't really matter which one I'm using.

This is something I really struggle with. I think the bass in front of the pedal makes more difference due to output signal.

For me, I run a Aguilar TH as a pre (depending on the amp I am using), and sometimes distortion. Solo, the tone is ok. In the mix it sounds pretty good. Every time I try a really nice pedal in the mix, it doesnt impress me enough to drop a bunch of cash on it.

All depends on the rig and the room. I had an opportunity to play with the band ant another groups rehersal spot. Their "practice" setup was unreal. I have no idea what amp and such I was using but it was piped through two ampeg 8x10. The guitar rigs were two full stacks each. You could clearly hear the differnce in this situation between the TFR and BB. I settled on the BB and everyone loved the Venom OD tone I had. We had a hard time hearing ourselves since the drums were also going through the PA. So again it will all depend on the situation.
