I feel you, man. There are a few threads that I follow, this being one of them, and I'll quickly scan through the new posts to see if there's anything interesting... but there rarely is. There's so much repetition of topics (but that's to be expected as new folks come along) but worse is the same old crappy answers that people give and the pedantic minutiae that people will rant, rave and rail about :rollno:

I know I'm new here, but one that already annoys me is the notion that if the audience can't tell a difference in your tone, then the difference doesn't matter. There's obviously some logic to that, but it's such a narrow way of looking at things.

you forgot the recent trends of High Pass Filters and drilling holes for weight relief.

Realistically, most audiences won't notice minor bits of your tone. If you're ++treble or ++bass then it's super noticeable, but a couple +/- db in place here/there won't be super noticeable in some situations.

The joke in my band is "look for the person with their arms crossed who looks pissed, that's the ~insert instrument of yours player~ and you shaged up somehow." As long as it sounds good, most people won't notice/care, some of us will always point out flaws/issues.

That and probably the general coverbandland mentality. I get it, the vocal majority on TB are coming from that end of things. But I do not understand it at all:

Play what BL demands. Play songs that pay the bills, even if you hate them; its not about your taste. Money, dear boy. If you're getting paid, stfu. :vomit::vomit:. If that what being a career musician is count me out. Lol. Yes, because no one ever had any success playing their own music.o_O

I get that, it just bugs me when someone chimes into a thread dismissing the whole topic because the audience won't notice/care. If someone's criteria is whether it'll be noticeable to the audience, that's totally fine. But not everyone uses that as their criteria. Neither one is right or wrong objectively, it just annoys me when "the audience won't notice" is asserted like it's some sort of universal litmus test.

Holes for weight is crazy to me, but HPFs make sense. Hell, they're part of many amps whether there's a control for it or not - but I digress.

The other common one is "what's the most transparent OD, that won't alter my tone but will add just a little bit of hair, grit, wool, insert other descriptive term for 'tiny little things'."

Holes for weight makes sense. I have an old 5er that's heavy as shag, and sometimes I wish I could drill some holes in it to make it weigh less.
