Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Decided to attempt recording things again, and in the process of working out the inevitable kinks of getting my system up and running, I found old recordings of songs I’d written, but have now forgotten. Hate when that happens! Got one figured out again already, but need to figure out the other.

I’m determined to try and play more, so thought recording/headphones, etc. might be the only way to get that going.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this speaker? Particularly in regards to use in a bass cab. Thx in advance

I love Crack the Skye. The more I've learned about the about the backstory the more I understand just what it meant to the band. Especially the title track, you can absolutely hear Brann and Brents pain bubbling to the surface and being exorcised

Anybody use a Throne Torcher? Looking at adding to the HM-2 stable. Love my Throat Locust, but I think it’s staying on guitar duty. Anything better than the Throat Locust for bass? For reference, I was not a fan of the Left Hand Wrath’s fizz, but the Throat Locust can tame that nicely and still sounds like an HM-2. Which pedals should I look for? I know of plenty of clones, but can’t find bass demos for many.

The Dunwich Modded HM2 is a really great pedal and works well for bass. Not fizzy, IMO. Regarding the Left Hand Wrath, did you try the basic pedal or the deluxe version? I ask because the deluxe weirdly lacks the diode select option of the basic pedal, and I think the basic pedal set to germanium clipping sounds much better for bass than either pedal with silicon clipping.

Basic. Don’t remember the diodes I used, but would have at least tried both. Just didn’t gel with that one, and considering I preferred my far cheaper Arion Metal Master for bass (it’s my 2nd favorite HM-2 for bass this far), I passed it along for other gear.

Makes sense. Yeah, the Dunwich is a great pedal. If you’re into something more off the wall the Idiotbox Dungeon Master is pretty great too, it’s a vintage style fuzz circuit with an HM2 tone stack. They’re both great pedals.

I figured there'd be more knowledge of some lesser known bands, and maybe some bands y'all are in that I haven't heard either. Thanks!

Not sure if they've been mentioned by Queens of the Stone Ages early work and Kyuss were huge for me (and the genre) when I was younger. Check out The Sword (especially Age of Winters) and 1000mods as well.

Nice, that's how I got a Leslie I need to reconstruct. Nice 8-10" speaker system, small cab. I just need to rebuild a dedicated cab for it and wire it up. May not be loud enough for a gig, but awesome as a freebie.

I'm not really picky about anything. I love playing jazzes, P's, MM's, and whatnot just fine, it's just fun to have more/different tones. I did start building just because I didn't want to spend custom shop prices for a bass I want, when I can make it for a fraction. Not saying it's not worth the money, because they are, but I don't need something that nice. Modding a cheap bass is an option I've thought of.

I'm trying to stave off building pedals because it's already fun enough "designing" circuits and the small cash on pedals builds up quick. I'd be perpetually broke if I tried that endeavor.

Yeah... Having a well stocked lab helps fosho.

A friend gifted me 25 big Hammond boxes, so uh, some of y'all might be unwitting test subjects.
