I've been trying to avoid doing this ALL THE TIME but there are a few places in a bunch of the songs where I've been putting some upper register fills in and it seems to help.

We're actually looking for some keys, but finding a keys player who want to do heavy stuff is HARD.

we've chatted on synths and weirdness from time to time though. I'm currently trying to resist the urge to start building a modular synth myself...

We haven't releases anything yet... I'm about to buy my first "basic" recording gear (and I have yet to learn how to use it), we wanted to make a "proper" demo in the next months... I could share an "unofficial" audio that will self-destruct in a short time tho.

Pumped to hear it! I've started to venture into the duo land myself lately. Just need to jam with my buddy here soon.

I am using Reason 10, EZ Drummer 2, and have an Audient iD14 interface. Past that, everything is bass, guitar, amps, pedals, and a small midi keyboard for synth and trigger stuff. It’s not expensive per se, but I can get really good tone and mix with it. I haven’t bought any other plugins past what Reason has for free and the EZDrummer. It’s pretty much just me doing the work on everything, so I’m lacking there, but everything else seems to work well. Lol

One day when I have the time I hope to be able to start putting stuff like this together.

Oh and found a secret use for the sub fuzz! Turn fuzz and sub down, then crank the dry mid knob. Instant mid boost, is a beast with the gunslinger distortion.

I hope I'm wrong, but doesn't "letting it be sold" mean a junk store or pawn shop (or similar) gets it cheap and you end up with no money to speak of? Please make sure you end up with either enough money or (some of) your own gear. I do see why you'd rather make a fresh start.

Would lurking to find bands from bandcamp on your town that use synths and distorted guitars be a good strategy? (I think maybe it would be awkward to contact them. But i'm a 21st century schizoid man, so i have no clue)

Nah, I am in MPLS, there are 4 GCs, 2 Music Go Rounds, and other mom and pop stores. I just wanted to find a cheap-ish P bass to learn to work on and try out the famous P bass sound.

Check out Twin Town. They occasionally have some cool used stuff. Also, there are lots of cool basses with P pickups that aren’t fender or squire, and so many that are fender/squier, you can be a little picky.

Speaking of which, I'm currently discovering black metal. I used to dismiss it as something "I don't like" but it was just a stupid bias. I liked plenty of those records. And I'm totally in love with bands such as Oranssi Pazuzu and Convulsing (although too "original" to strictly fit the genre)!! I think I have re-listened to this record like 20 times in the last 2 days F.ING A-WE-SOME

@oZZma if you haven't already, make sure to check out the Ulver album "Bergtatt." It's a black metal classic while also being outside the norm. Also, and somewhat unusually for black metal, there is some very prominent bass playing.

Another I'd highly recommend checking out is Panopticon "Kentucky."
