Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Dang, just now read that @dunwichamps closed up shop. Over the years I’ve used three different Wizards, two ODBs, the Volt Throwers, a couple different Cthulhus, and some other one-offs. Everything was always top quality. I fondly remember the “Doomersizing” gag and the “Reps For Satan” t-shirt! Sorry to see y’all exit the game, but I get that time & responsibility roll onward. Wishing y’all the very best.

The Dunwich designs live on through Magic Pedals. I can't speak for their own designs but both of my Dunwich units (DA120, Volt Thrower) were manufactured by them and they're great. They're coming out with a Model T based pedal soon, one that was designed by Dunwich but never made it to production. I'm stoked to get one!

Somehow, 2 cases seem to have walked out of my jam room. No one’s been in there, I haven’t removed them, nothing. But my friend and I both swear we’d had those cases in there. And it’s just cases! All the guitars/basses are still there! What the heck?
Welcome to getting old. It seems to get worse as I get older...
Me: "I SWEAR TO GOD that thing was RIGHT there FIVE MINUTES AGO!!!
My wife (or one of the kids): "You mean this? *points to the thing I've been looking for for 2 hours, sitting on the counter, 3 feet from me*

But at least I find pedals or stuff I forget I had. And I have 3 tubes of toothpaste.

So I visited a buddy of mine yesterday. He just bought a big box of pedal clone circuits and is putting together a Giant Hogweed for me! Can't wait to demo that thing for you guys! While my mind is fully occupied in building a pedalboard to create the dirtiest, weirdest tones to peel the paint off the walls, all of my practice time has been a lot of thumping on the roots of my electric upright for some upcoming classic rock gigs. I can't wait to learn all these songs so I can spend my time playing stuff I actually like! But these gigs pay and that means more gear.

Boring af weekend, had practice both days this weekend with both projects. Sat we just did bass/guitar/vocals practice with the postmetal thing and that went really well, got some minor issues sorted out and got a stronger understanding of some of our interplay which was really cool. Plus we got some scratch track vocals with our singer for the 2 songs we have full lyrics for, its nice to have some real progress going. Also got some of the spots where I have my vocals to go kind of laid out. Its pretty cool to start hearing how we're all sounding together.

Nice! Paying gigs are always good... I want to start doing more jazz stuff around here but my schedule is too packed already.
Unrelated, I think we're starting to get a decently sized greater-bay-area group reppin' in here these days which is awesome to see!

Good point, and most of my Dunwich pedals were actually built by Magic over the years. Glad they'll still be in-production.

What a nice guy I am! They haven’t even started playing and I’m keeping y’all up to date!

Yeah it's getting pretty crazy. My school canceled all classes next week to extend spring break and after that they're all probably moving online. I understand why though, some of my own professors are absolutely ancient and definitely shouldn't be put at risk like that.

I do think that a lot of the panic and precaution is due to the fact that most of our leaders worldwide are pretty old with varying degrees of physical health so they're some of the people that are most at risk. It's crazy how much can get done when the people in control are actually concerned.

But honestly the stocking up on water thing is what baffles me the most! Corona doesn't even spread like that, and if you're that worried just boil it. But whatever... thanks for coming to my TED talk :rollno:
