Your tone is nasty deep, love that massive bass! More metal needs to be mixed like this.
Played the Gibson EB-0L at practice. Totally different species than my p bass. It certainly isn't 'punchy' and absolutely not clangy, but damn is the low end in heaps. Low end everywhere. Very thick tone. As predicted, it does not need the Pork Loin, and in fact, it may be the only bass that the Pork Loin makes sound worse.
The EB-0L is a joy to play, and gets along very well with the Mithrandir fuzz, which adds in enough high end fizz/sizzle to fill out the sound.
I wasn't too sure about the EB at first as it does feel slightly 'lost' in the mix. But when I switched to the p bass for a song it was so obvious how much fuller the EB is.
Works fine in my band, though again, we're a trio and our guitarist relies on his amps for dirt, he usually only has a boost and a wah in front.
So that said, I do get a lot of space to fill, and boy howdy, the EB certainly does that. Looking forward to gigging it for sure!

Great to hear! I was just thinking last night about trying a fuzz with my modified Jazz. How does it feel? Is the bridge giving you any problems with intonation?
I finally got a tube head. Yowzers - can't wait to let it rip at my next jam/writing session on Monday. I've plugged into one here and there at music stores, but that's always been such a hard way to gauge the sound - especially because I never want to crank things up and be the obnoxious guy at the store. Playing this thing at home through both of my cabs, it's insane how much depth and dimension there is to the notes. I think I understand the hype and constant attempts at describing how full tube heads namely tube power) just 'feels' different.
The hipshot bridge is freaking great and very adjustable. Probably need to tweak the intonation a hair but no problems. The prior owner had labella tapes on it so the nut was all ready for the bigass chromes [132, 100, 80, 65] and the action is pretty low, neck is super stable. Probably the best neck I've played. Slim width like an ibby but with a deep u shape.
I've had really bad GAS for a tube amp. There's a guy locally that's selling an AD200B on CL for $1500. I'm going to start doordashing along with my current job so I can save up some money faster. Hopefully by the time I have enough he hasn't sold it!
Speaking of tube amps, where does everyone stand on the hybrid (tube pre/solid state power) amps?

Honestly I lean towards the opposite. I run SS preamp pedals through a tube power amp and like it a lot. It seems with SS pres (MDB1, Submarine) my tone is more succinct and maybe tighter sounding?Then when run through my tube power amp I get a nice tube tone covering the whole sound if that makes any sense?
Sometimes I feel tube pres can get buzzy and too compressed too fast. Not all the time but for me I have found what I prefer. For example if I run a heavy fuzz through a tube pre I feel it doesn't take it as well as a SS pre.
Now this is all speaking for dirty tones. For clean tone all tube is what I prefer.
The only way I found all this out is because I bought a tube power amp and just did some experimenting.
I went with a V-4B. I’m keeping my Mesa D-800+ still. So 100 tube watts should be enough for what I need, and I can always use them in conjunction if I need tons of clean power, since I have a decked out ABY box as part of my main board...
I’m also going to get an HPF just to give me a bit more clean volume out of the head/cabs. I had one before but sold it since the Mesa head has one built in.
depends on the amp. most run very low voltages in the preamp tubes and its more gimmick than anything. and while a tube preamp, if impleneted well like JGR preamps can sound great, they still sound nothing like all tube amps and I don't think of them as a "best of both worlds" amp but just a completely different type of amp to choose from.
Nice! I've always wondered how those and the grey ones compare to the reissue. Love the look of the grey ones personally.
I'm in the if it sounds good, it is good camp. There's only a few amps that I've used that are SS and don't try to cop a tube tone. My main amp is a lead sled. It has a SS pre with a blendable tube drive. The pre sounds good, but the tube grit sounds best when I'm really pushing the power amp. Truthfully, it's the only SS amp (tube pre or otherwise) I've been totally satisfied with the fullness and push at loud volumes.
@bassboysam nailed it IMO. Some are great, some not so.
I've been wanting to try the WD800 to see what up with the power amp loading thing every one's talking about.

Nice! I have one too. Socketed the input and output caps to get a bit more bass at higher gain. Considered upgrading to the EQD grey channel, but you know what? The DOD 250 is prefect as it is. I adore the kind of electric yet dry vibes of the simple but very characteristic drive of the pedal! Gonna add true bypass, an LED, and a barrel jack soon

I'm a sucker for simple pedals that just do good things. Grey channel's on the bucket list, been way too curious.

Sorry for the bad pic. Got it for the delay and wanted to check out the op amp fuzz. Now granted there's no presets, but the range of great sounds you can get (quickly) is unreal.
If I wanted a "fly rig" as a guitarist, this would be on the short list. Hits all the things I'd want in a pinch. And it's not bland.
Great on bass. Some may want a clean blend, but I think it may have enough meat. Have yet to try it at high volume. But the full body fuzz rips!
I too like simple pedals. My extra fuzzy DOD250 kicked my muff off of my board finally. I don't have a place for a full out fuzz with my band so much but noise gated extra crunchy distortion/drive is more suitable for our sound.
