Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

2020 was going to be an awesome year for shows. RATM/RTJ tickets in hand. Started good with Tool in San Jose...then Mr. Bungle (San Francisco) and Melvins (Felton). Simply great.
I saw Metalachi on March 12...the first and last day of their tour this year. That was an unexpected RIOT.
My band Birdo threw down on March 13, 4 days before Santa Cruz was shut down. It felt like some strange "Masque of the Red Death" scenario and people partied like it was the last Friday they got to revel together. And it was. (Nobody got sick from the show to my knowledge.)

Finally got around to soldering cables for my GT 1000 Core. Some observations from some tests now that I'm back on track:
- DOD 250 is an excellent dirty boost for the Sunn!
- HM2 also works really well through it, but I need to test it more especially since I've yet to load IRs on the GT 1000 Core
- I have not tried the PD-7 on board yet but I expect similar enough results to the HM-2. Maybe better? We'll see
- Core does a good enough separation between channels using a very slow, low depth chorus with some delay. I'm not gonna re-introduce the Mimiq.
- Meatbox + Behringer Superfuzz works well, but the Behringer does not retain the sub bass well enough and would require a blend to get the kind of absolutely monstrous sound I desire. Patiently awaiting the next run of Dunwich Witchfinders from Magic
- 4 in 4 out MIDI controlled, buffered router/mixer to handle all my inputs nicely
- Pedal-based class D amp that has footswitch, volume control, and speakon output to complement my planned sustainer
- MIDI + Expression controller, duplicator, router, and LFO thingymajig to complement an ES-8
- Model T based pedal with power amp simulation, send/return between pre- and power amp sim stages, overhauled EQ, maybe screwing around with the voltage a bit too, maybe even some MIDI controls?
- Ditto for a Matamp. Probably would end up rather derivative of a DA120, but I'd like to base it on a GT200. IIRC that one has a somewhat different EQ section.
- Russian Muff with my preferred bells and whistles
- PD-7 clone with MIDI controls since it is such a versatile pedal that deserves some preset capabilities at the very least
I did the stupidest thing this week: I hurt myself twice. The same hand.
First, I tripped over a concrete ledge, walking across the parking lot at work, at night in the dark. Wounded the middle, ring, and little fingers of my right hand. Nothing disastrous, it'll heal, but those fingers are now too stiff to pluck bass strings well.
A couple days later, I cut the index finger of the same hand while cooking the food.
(I'm a lefty that plays righty, so my cutting hand is left and my plucking hand is right.)
So I haven't been playing bass for a few days now. I can pluck a few notes with my middle finger but it's just no fun. To my surprise I'm beginning to feel dangerously aggressive, which was normal in my youth, but I haven't felt this in years. I've never realized what playing bass does for channeling my emotions.
Listening helps. Thanks to @arbitrary and @lucas303 for mentioning Meth Drinker. Listened to 40 minutes of very slow aggression. Now I can act normally again.

Don't start with their most recent release. It's great, it's just not the best entry point for them IMO.
By "help", you mean funds, right? To get in on the bottom floor of your soon-to-be pedal business?
THIS. My wife doesn't get it, and thinks that my bass and all that is just "stuff". She's wondered a few times why I seem annoyed or irritable, and it's always after not being able to play for extended times or just not having any time to relax in general. Bass is cathartic - and even moreso the louder it is played...
@instrumentalist I sat down tonight with the express purpose of making sounds to channel some emotional stuff, inspired directly by your post. So thanks for that.

This reminds me of something I once said to my wife. I was introducing her to classical music, and I made a remark about Mahler's symphonies being great, just not for a beginner. Stupid me! She looked hurt, like I was treating her like a child. She went on to become a bit of a Mahler fan.
(Every boyfriend introduced her to new music. She'd dated a Jazz Guy, a Blues Guy, etc. I was the Classical Music Guy.)

Some Al-esque groovin from these guys. They're an instrumental duo fro Croatia. They just have a few youtube videos and some music on bandcamp but I've messaged them through Insta and they said they're going to try and record in the forest that's in this video and have some official releases in 2021.

Not at all. And thanks for suggesting them. They're now in my "watch later", meaning I'll get around to them before 2021 ends.
