@arbitrary that's a good idea. I always just jammed picks in my pg and set some on my amp to grab. I go back and forth all the time. Sometimes even finger picking, flamenco, and open hand strumming. Not that I'm much good at it. Sounds like it's time for me to start training my ring finger.

Can't recall how many picks I've lost at a gig because I forgot to pick em up!

Yeah Rallys is great for those late nights! That A&W is near Sanilac isn't it? I lucked out and there were 2 of em I think maybe 3 growing up in Lansing, but I think 1 is left. Surprising I work right by an A&W so I get a chance often. Theres a rad drive in somewhere in North Lansing called nip n sip. That place is killer.

Big myth and history need here, big fan of mythical Thor and Odin, been trying to think of a good name for a guitar (for my prototype) from Mjolnir "the grinder" is the best I got.

@kleinenenten agreed Rally best, followed by A&W for normal style fries. Though Big Johns competes with Rallys since they're similar but waffle fries. Haven't had Big John's in forever. Best steak and onion sammy.



Yeah the sandwiches can be good. Round here is hit and miss at each spot, but that coffee is so bad!

No, I gotcha. There's really no consistency in the Bible. I went to Catholic school for years and started seeing the gaps in middle school. I realized early on that it didn't add up. Didn't realize Satan/Lucifer weren't identical, but it's been a looong while since I've looked into the stuff. Regardless, the Morning Star Church" cracks me up every time I see it.

I guess more the influence, than truly traditional flamenco playing. Finger strumming and chordal finger picking structures. I admit I really approach bass playing from a more melodic and rhythm guitar perspective. I've been in the position of needing to do both so much that I think I'm kinda wired to think that way, especially chord work.

I don't know much flamenco music so I could be spitting BS. But the few examples of such definitely inspired the ideas in my head. One of my best friends loved to dink around with it and it rubbed off on me no doubt.

Forgot to toss this in here. Great sound and can get glitchy in that semi predictable, but random enough to work perfect way. Things got tons of balls with or without the sub octave, unity output is at the equivalent of 2 lol

Want one of those Atreides so hard... Wish I didn't have to wait for a pre-order...

Yeah - I "learned" enough in 8 years. My parents offered all 4 of their children the option for Catholic. None of us took it. Enough said.

@Novarocker No BS at all, it makes good sense to me. Myself, I find flamenco an inspiring thing, though I can't yet point at anything definite it made me do so far. Thanks for sharing.

Did you know that flamenco is a main subject at at least one university in Spain? This comprises the music, dance, costumes, regional variations, social context, historical perspective, etc.

So I got screwed at first on my order. They didn't contact me for crap and I started asking for an ETA every week or so after the ship date. Finally was told they didn't get enough and weeks later said it'd be till July for more.

Lucky for you, you could probably find some in stock. Just message some dealers. I looked for ones that said they had a specific number in stock on Reverb. Most responded quick and said they did have stock on hand.

That Flametal clip is great! Gotta listen to the rest of it.

Thats really cool. I knew it was a real tradition, but didnt realize it's that huge. The dexterity and fluidity of the style blows my mind.

So back when gigs were a thing, I'd almost always be the last to leave the venue, and before I did I'd hit the stage/green room to do the "dummy check."

I have a collection of probably over a hundred picks that I scavenged during these checks, courtesy of folks just like you

Lol! I'll be frank, I wasn't sober enough to care many a time. Between all the energy of the show, chatting with others and cleaning up I often would forget about em.

You should give it a go, finding the right pick should be no problem. Its amazing the difference in attack a pick can bring, tone as well. More so how different various pick thickness and material can change the sound.

Yeah there's been a few bands I've been in where we'd have a song or two that I would switch over for, for exactly that reason. I favored stainless steel picks on those occasions. Did a hired gun session where the producer requested a pick specifically (though he didn't like my steel picks and had me use a regular plastic one).

I can "do" it, just never put in the time to get "good" at it. Been telling myself I should get around to it for the past 10 years or so. Much like everything else in my life.

I’ve tried an awful lot of picks, from thin little nylon ones to those huge acrylic V-Picks, and for bass, I always come back to standard big triangles in the .88mm - 1.14mm range. Dunlop Ultex are really nice, but lots of companies make good ones.

I like the Dunlop USA Nylon .88 mm.

I'm not very good at picking but when I do I use a Bone pick that I bought at a music festival from a kiosk. Definitely need to practice with it more.

I don't use a pick on purpose as I'm a converted guitar player with crap picking habits.

I've recently started playing a lot more guitar (relatively speaking, haven't played much of anything in a month or more now...) and have gotten much better at picking on both guitar and bass. I still prefer fingers on bass, though for some tones I prefer the pick. Mostly I want the ability to switch should I want to or should the song/desired tone dictate.

I've also come around to rounds on some of my basses again. Still not my preferred tone, but it's good for some things to have in the arsenal.

Next, I'm thinking of getting a fretless...

The last 6 months or so have seen odd changes for me tone-wise. I've gone from all flats and fingers to some rounds with pick - and I'm ENJOYING it. Which is of course, all that matters.
