I went way too deep on a pedal binge, time for a purge. I've been too much of a sucker for deals, gotta start backing down. The last few in have been really impressive though:
The Black Ash will probably go. It's amazing on bass, but that RCO clone is so close it's not totally worth keeping an original. The price was low enough it was worth it to see how alike 2 of them are. Haven't even had a chance to play it yet.
The Purple Platypus was a real surprise, lower gain is real touch sensitive and you can get a lot of synthy, ring mod type sounds out of the octave. Lot of fun. I didn't pay attention to whether lows were lost, but certainly fun. Probably going to move it along, couldn't pass up when some retailer put em on sale for less than used ones are going for...
The SD-2 is the real sleeper. Wooh, first Boss pedal in over 15 years! Yes it cuts some low end, yes it's similar to an SD-1, but it's so much better. First off, having it set up with different modes is cool, but the remote option is genius. Way ahead of their time again. Again this one was a bit of a steal, it's damn near flawless cosmetically. I got this because it sounded like this is the dirt pedal to get if you're not really into Boss's std dirt offerings. Supposedly it's better. Eitherway switching back and forth from one to the other was awesome.
The low gain is way better than the SD-1 and bass OD's of theirs I've tried. Was smooth but had bite when digging in and better dynamics overall. Solid is how I'd describe it. When lightly palm muting it brought out a lot of lows and low mids.
The lead though was sick! Had some great mid grind that should cut through a mix no problem. Tons of bite if you need and can easily get that nice harmonic chirping at the attack of a note if you dig in. Huge fan of this overall, now I gotta try it with my clean blend set up to see if I can get it to work.
So yeah I gots problems...and I'm still waiting on other pedals...
