Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I'm always wanting custom pickguards and it seems no one ever has exactly what I'm after. It's either not available or too hard to explain to a large company with 10 back and forth emails.
Such as P shape pickguard with a J route or vice versa
Or P pickguard but reverse P route
Or any Ric pickguards
Etc etc
oh yeah and left handed too
I'd be super stoked for a smallish operation with great communication.
You'll get more responses if you start a thread in the hardware subforum.
I'm sure you're right, just an idea that I'm rolling around and I wanted to start small.
I would definitely love something like that @PokeyPrasch. I'm more of a wood guy myself but metal sounds sick too. I made the wood pickguard on my P-bass and it turned out pretty good. Definitely not hard if you have a stencil and a jigsaw.
Failure announced summer dates today. It's not 'stoner/doom', but I figure there are some cool cats in this thread that probably dig them. If you need a convincing bass tone to win you over, this is a nice smack in the face...

Idk if this will “help” you or not, but I do feel like custom pick guard sites are somewhat lacking…
I have wanted a custom pick guard for a while, but as someone else mentioned - I’ve had kind of a hard time figuring out exactly how to convey what I’m after over online channels and one of the reasons I haven’t tried it is that I worry I will somehow get the wrong size or get something with holes drilled in the wrong place…(Plus I’m cheap so idk if I wanna she’ll out for one just yet)…
A couple of sites I’ve hit up seemed like they still only take paper order forms…
This site seems like it probably the “best” one I’ve found for custom pick guards, but I think you could improve on the process/description and few other logistics: Invalid Link Removed
I think there’s definitely a market for it is my point…

the attachment sadly doesn't work for me. But I love the light pedal! (Or at least the idea of it. I haven't tried one, but watched all the demosSpeaking of effects...I got the Gamechanger Audio Light Pedal a couple days ago. The thing is really wild. There's so much it can do...sometimes it feels like an instrument unto itself. Here's a little sample I made with some modulated delay, and a tiny amount of stereo reverb after the Light Pedal just to keep the signal from being mono: Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

@lucas303 that's a sweet pedal! I'm a sucker for those kinds of pedals, gimmicky or not. The Anasounds one that uses an actual tank has been calling my name for some time.
Yeah I remember being in a band in HS and the guitarist had one of the smaller metal ones. Always wanted one of the bass ones for like practice or something.
I think a lot of the pit falls you've already mentioned and others have as well are the big ones. I don't see a lot of others (granted I don't look much) that dont offer unique shapes or deviation from OEM. I think besides offering differing pickup routes and materials, that that would be your selling point. I dig the one you got and being able to cut out lightning bolts or other simple shapes on spots of the pg would be awesome IMO.
As far as a real soon purchase from me, IDK. Possibly, since I've thought about one for my stingray. I'm a sucker for anodized and clear pickguards too and there's not a lot of em out there for many styles.
Lastly, with all the delays from starting a family it's still a ways off, but I'm trying to get a guitar/bass company off the ground. Having something like that farmed out to cut down on the most expensive portion of building instruments (time) is definitely attractive, especially if it's more unique than I'd even be able to do without being too time consuming. I mean even with a template made, if it takes an hour to go from scratch to finish, you're adding say $20 to the cost of the instrument, just for the pg...adding that to the material cost...

Now that I have something to contribute, my newest band (high karate) played our first show back about a month ago; small show but was absolutely amazeballs. I was running high before, during and after. And now we’re going into the studio come March, so doubly excited (4 songs).

thanks; I'm super damn happy with my rig atm. It's been a fun journey. I put an EGC neck on a geddy lee body, routed it for a PJ and then put nordstrand blades in it.
The preamp is a Zdora 1978, based off the old traynor the rusty box is based from; gets duuuurty durrrrty durrrty. And the poweramp is the mesa m190. Its a touch ironical using a solid state preamp into a tube power amp, but its amazing. And then for cabs, I'm using a berg 4x12 and 2x15.

oh yeah! Same for the Surfy Bear. None of these would fit me board at the moment, but you can never have enough reverb
@Novarocker the Light Pedal is definitely not a gimmick. There's an interesting short video on YouTube about how they came up with it...highly recommended.

I have been increasingly obsessed with them over the past few years and even more so with the new album and the guys making the podcast rounds. Listen to Ken’s interview on the Tone Mob podcast. Lots of great gear talk and breaks down the bass tone on Fantastic Planet. They are going to be here in Denver on my birthday!
