So, umm, I already have a Boss RE-20. I still really want a RE-202, even though it seems it has pretty ugly clipping when driven and the instrument/line input switch seems to do nothing in a couple of reviews I've seen.

I saw Metal Lords on Netflix this weekend. Cute, if predictable movie. Great soundtrack.
And bowed instruments in metal are freaking bad ass. In a few weeks I'm finally recording again, and will take the EUB for one or two songs

Man, these seem so sick. Are the reviews saying they don’t sound good with dirt pedals in front of them or that really hot signals make it clip?

There are synthetic bow fibers but they don't grip as well. FWIW, they don't kill the horses they just use their tail hair.
EDIT: According to the CPR article I just read, they can harvest from live horses, but the hair typically comes from slaughter houses.

Well, the demos I was watching were synth demos, and they can generate a lot hotter signal than most other instruments. When they hit it really hard, it didn't sound great to me. Bringing the level down made it break up a lot better. What really surprised me was that the switch for the input level didn't seem to do much (perhaps the synth was simply putting out too much for it to compensate). I should probably watch some demos with a normal passive instrument being used for input before I decide.

My brother and our buddy were discussing how Metallica should be removed from the Big 4 of thrash, and Exodus should replace them. Curious, I listened to some of their cuts. That's a big negative, wing commander. Me no likey. However, I did come across a now-defunct (I think.) Aussie thrash band called 4Arm, that I did quite like. Very much in the Slayer vein, but better leads that Hanneman/King, IMHO.
I've heard of people thinking Anthrax were out of place but that's a new take to me and a bold one at that. Personally I think Megadeth should be removed, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard added, then Metallica should be removed, until they're added again while Megadeth are reinstated as an honorary member and Exodus is added as a full member. Everyone will be angry and I'm sure it will inspire many great songs in the genre and no futile Internet arguments. We'll call it The Big Six and Two Thirds
There are lots of great thrash bands from the 80s. Exodus is certainly one of them. The big four is just fine the way it is IMO. Anyone suggesting to remove Metallica likely wasn't around then to appreciate how HUGE Metallica was and how crazy it was to have One in regular rotation on MTV. Actually, I'd be more inclined to think that anyone suggesting that is just trolling.
For context, let's look at the Billboard Hot 100 from April 8, 1989 (One's peak): The Hot 100 – Billboard
Now I'm not saying that chart success is equivalent to musical quality, but just showing how they were THE thrash band for tons of people back then...in part because a lot of people didn't even know thrash existed before they saw Metallica on MTV. In this case, though, it just so happens that One is a great song.
Looking at that chart I'm also reminded of two things:
1. How much I hate Def Leppard
2. Cult of Personality is somewhere on the list of my all-time favorite songs

I've heard people rope KG&tLW in w/ thrash bands before and I always experience cognitive dissonance. King Gizzard are great, but I don't hear them as a thrash band. I've heard others say this too, and I'm legit hoping you can illuminate this for me. Their drummer does some cool double-kick stuff, but they sound like a heavy pscyh band to me, like The Oh-Sees w/out the surf thing. I really dig their use of organ and synths, fender-style amps, jangly guitars, horns, and exotic instruments. I dig their songs and their jams, they have strong peaks and valleys in their music. I just don't hear thrash: What am I missing?
Note: I'm not hating on anything about your opinion, just trying to understand a POV that I've heard from more than a few people who usually hear music in a similar way to me. What are my damaged ears missing?
Oh I'm just screwing around. They're a very varied band though their home appears to be somewhere around psychedelic rock, yeah. The reason I brought them up here is that they made Infest The Rats Nest in uh '18 or '19. It's a thrash metal concept album about environmental destruction and class divide. Very worth a good listen.
As someone who wasn't even born until glam had seen its limelight, been killed, had its tomb desecrated by a necromancer, and was subsequently killed again, I have little very little relation to the genre. I get that it was massive and Kiss were a thing, but my first and last time hearing Def Leppard was on Guitar Hero 6 where they featured Pour Some Sugar On Me. And honestly it sounds like what glam should be to me. It's catchy, the vocal harmonies are really nice, and it doesn't rush itself. It's on my guitar hero favourites playlist and that's about it. So I guess the question is, what's bad about Def Leppard?
