Two hours into a fast over here. The latest Somali Yacht Club album is real good (can't remember if I've posted about that before). That's all I've got.

Why the fast?
There's an Earthquaker Devices channel on YT that has some cool performances.

Mostly just for the heck of it. Also to break up my normal intermittent fasting schedule. Yes, I realize I'm a boring loser.

My day started w/ the Jarred Warren of Big Business Rig Rundown, and then I fell down a rabbithole of biamping w/ EHX HOG, POG, M9, C9, B9, and Eventide H9. Needless to day, I watched Rizer's HOG2 videos along with several others.

Stoner band rehearsal today. During the hours leading up to it, I wasn't feeling it. I totally lacked the familiar feeling of anticipation. When driving over, my head was empty.

All this changed as soon as we started playing. I was in a place where I'm making music and nothing else mattered in the world. Bliss.

Also, I'm learning heaps of new things, like singing into the microphone instead of near it. And how in an uptempo bluesy song, if I listen to the drums and try to fit my part in, I get behind. Instead, I have to firstly just play my part and then try to meet the drums. That worked. Interesting.

And then I got home and felt exhausted. Playing in a band is intense.

I love Leo Smee's bass tone on Cathedral's earlier albums. Smooth, ballsy, articulate, and not totally fuzzed out. When we wanted to groove on his own it sounded so good.
Any suggestions for getting a sound like that?

Great song and I'm with you Leo is a great player but on The Ethereal Mirror it was Gaz on bass duties. The Carnival Bizarre is on the album Leo joined Cathedral. I don't know any of the equipment he used for the actual recording. I know in the early 2000's he used a P bass other than that it seems he's used a little of everything on the music videos and live bootlegs. On Hopkins it looked like he used an Orange amp but as Sabbath fans all know, we can't trust music videos. Any tube amp should get you there. Maybe a boost pedal to push those tubes and a good pre amp/di pedal will get you there. Ampeg SVT classic was his choice in the 2000s era. Good luck on your tone quest and please report your findings.

The bass tone on Last Spire was very different. Shame Leo didn't record that one.

The tones between Ethereal and Carnival are almost identical. I wonder if Leo used Gaz's rig for consistency?
