Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Yikes, the pancreas. That got me into hospital last year, got lucky, no necrosis. Had I checked in 48h later it would have looked much different. Get well, you!

(Incidentially, was almost exactly a full year to the day, so you should be fine I think. I'm allowed beer again, still no harder alcohol mind. On the other hand, it made Covid so much more scary, because the doc was worried the infection could get hold of the pancreas with all the not-so-fun stuff associated.)

To be a bit more on-topic: Thanks to everybody here who was chattering about Om. I had heard of the project a while = years ago, but totally forgot about it even though I loved Sleep back in the day. Checked them out while recuperating, and boy. A bass player's Doom band, indeed. :D Cheers everybody!
"Advaitic Songs" is one m of my Top 5 albums of all time.

Spent my night learning Kreator songs and comparing Russian Muff clones. Think I prefer the Russian Pickle (Smalls) ever so slightly to the EHX Reissue, but both are phenomenal for the price. Not a bad way to pass the time! I also found out my Throat Locust pedal can do 18v, so I'm really loving that for some uncompressed HM-2 goodness. Keep on doomin', my low-tuned compatriots!

Also a big fan. And I’m digging the new solo record. Very funny though.

What new solo record? (I haven't been checking in here much lately. Making drone stuff primarily with synths has been my main musical outlet lately.)

Downloaded a Charlie Hunter CD, "Baboon Strength". Good oddball jazz stuff. If you aren't familiar, he plays an 8-string fanned fret guitar with 3 bass strings, so he handles both duties simultaneously. Pretty impressive to watch him play.

I just saw Garage A Trois a couple weeks ago or so, and have seen Charlie Hunter several times over the past decade-plus. I never get tired of watching him play that thing, even in today's age of eight-string virtuosos like Tosin Abasi (which is not to say one is better than the other).

In other news, I'm planning on going to the Om shows in Denver and ABQ, and the Earth show in Boulder. I might also do the Earth show in Denver because I saw a rumor that Dylan said this might be Earth's last tour.

Edit: Also, the new Earth Crisis is as subtle as it is great (severely OT I know):

Any of you folks build any of the fearful/greenboy cabs? I'm plotting out building or buying a lighter/more portable cab for smaller rehearsals/practices so I'm not dragging my big cabs out of my studio every week, or so I'm not just keeping my eden/gk cabs in my jeep all week.

Currently looking at the 12/6/1 for fearful or like snagging a berg/gk/epifini 210 or something. Huge bonus points if its not a huge nightmare to carry up n down stairs.

I built a 15 sub and I have absolutely zero skills in this department: Build thread: fEARful 15 sub

I haven't used it a ton because I want to build a midrange/treble box to go with it but just haven't gotten around to it (I have all the parts except the wood). Also I've been really happy with the sealed 12" cab I made out of a guitar cab, so that has further reduced my motivation to build something else.

Ahh, good to know.
A build like this won't be too hard, the bigger factor is what my free time/ability to take more projects on will be... At least this build is a lot less intense than the kayak I built last year, lol.
