Glad I popped in here, was trying to decide between Bass Mountain and the MXR Bass Distortion. I love the other Frost Giant pedals I have, but I also saw that Steve from Imperial Triumphant uses the MXR and I dig his tone a lot. Guess it's back to research!

Glad I popped in here, was trying to decide between Bass Mountain and the MXR Bass Distortion. I love the other Frost Giant pedals I have, but I also saw that Steve from Imperial Triumphant uses the MXR and I dig his tone a lot. Guess it's back to research!
I need to try the MXR one day. I hear nothing but good things, but I haven't heard much recently. I've only ever tried the Bass Mountain from Frost Giant, but I DO love all of the MXR bass offerings I've tried. I just also find that when it comes to dirt, boutique is almost always what I end up going with.
Banana peppers and feta are a go. The other three are a not go. You have some confusing taste buds, my man.
This checks all the boxes. Tone - check. Volume - check. Coolness - check. Stoner legitimacy - very much check.
Ah, the Geezer plucking position. Nice.
Edit. Speaking of Geezer, on the Black Sabbath "Heaven and Hell" album, I listened to it last night with headphones, and I would have bet you $100 it wasn't Geezer playing on there. The tone is soooo much tighter and driving than on Paranoid that I thought they had either someone else playing on there, or had forced him to pluck by the bridge instead of his usual spot over the end of the neck. I was blown away by the bass on this.

As much as Geezer is praised, I think he is still highly underrated for his versatility. The dude can do anything on a bass. He also did some of Ozzy's basslines in the early 90's - definitely on No More Tears. And he had/has his own project of alternative/industrial metal called Geezer (or G//z/r, or GZR) that, while not absolutely groundbreaking, is a completely different animal. It originally featured Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory on vocals. Heaven and Hell to me shows that he can play with anyone - as now that Dio was in the band and actively writing more music and lyrics, he had to play a more traditional support role with his bass. Previously, he wrote a considerable amount of the music and lyrics, and I feel it gave him more freedom on the bass. Anyway, I've been meaning to learn one of the songs off of that album for a while. Maybe soon!

I’m not always there but I use that position a lot. Ricks have so much range and response that if you’re always in one place, you’re leaving so many options on the table. I bought the bass, I’m using the whole damn thing!
It's the mix of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy, but yes I do.
Feeling kinda accomplished. This evening I learned "Bloodsucker" by Deep Purple, such a rifftastic tune.
That's how I felt last week when I learned three songs in one day! Of course, they all needed a bit of polishing, but I had the parts down. Now, a week later, I can play them all nearly perfectly - at least close enough nobody would notice. Amazing what continued practice can do...
In response to this, I tried something that I thought was a crazy combination. At a place called The Fly Trap, a diner in a town north of Detroit, they had a sandwich that was grilled cheese (3 types of cheese), Thai prik sauce, and kimchi. It went straight to the Mt. Rushmore of sandwiches. The kimchi and prik sauce were spicy, and cut right through the slightly glommy texture of the cheeses. Dear Deity, it was good.
I'm pretty much anchored on my bass with the thumb on the bridge pickup. (Jazz setup.) I move it around sometimes, but the difference in tones I get don't make up for the feel of the tighter tension nearer the bridge. (I pluck pretty hard.)
I totally get it. That’s another reason why i’ll slide back sometimes. Some riffs need a little more tension… especially when you play 45-105’s in C std…
Really digging this.
Yeah, it's pretty much how I'd want my band to sound, but with some more Deep Purple in it.
