if you do it, I would say try out one that has the option of a turbo rat, which IMO is best for bass.

Huh, interesting. I didn't know there was a pedal version. I know that 4ms made the circuit as a eurorack synth module [& kit] and that it was a fuzz/sound-effer-upper and can self- oscillate [not unlike a Fuzz Factory].
Kaa, buddy, you're breaking my fuzzy heart.
Yeah, I'm an embarrassment to the thread. My occasional basement jam has none of the heavies, mostly just classic rock, so there's not really any need for the fuzz. And, at home, it's just me, an iPad, and a headphone amp. Now, the Pandora does have some fuzz and such-like, but I only really use to for free-form lead bass noodling.
Don't worry. I'm probably a bigger embarrassment because, even though I play in a Stoner band, I play mostly clean.
Depending on the situation, of course, but I find sometimes if the bass is fuzzy as well as the guitars, the bass gets lost in the mix.

Yeah, I didn't know the beast existed at all until he told me he had one. Sadly, it's discontinued, and it looks like examples are a bit rare. You can still download the schematic and parts list from commonsound.com, so it's possible to recreate it. I'm tempted.
I recently went through a big Rat binge. I've found I like them for my "medium" gain stuff, which could likely be considered "heavy" gain for many, but probably not those here. If that makes sense. Anyway, after a lot of noodling and jamming to the songs I've been learning, I've found that my favorite Rats thus far - and in this order - are:
Dunwich Volt Thrower
Earthbound Audio Iron Pig (at 18v)
Frost Giant Bass Mountain
Fuzzrocious Cat Tail (diode options, but nothing else)
Idiotbox Blower Bass (standard version, though the new deluxe is tempting!)
Still want to try a Broughton Locust Star some time, but they're a bit pricey for me. Same for the MXR Bass Distortion, though that's certainly more affordable. Anyway, if you look back in this thread the past few months, you can probably see my posts, or I'm happy to answer questions.
In other bass news, to quote @Kaa - I got nothin'. Been too busy to play much the past few weeks. Need to get back to it and learn more stuff.

Have you tried the Blue Colander Tremond? If you dig the VT and Iron Pig, this is on the same level. Just flipped mine because I haven’t been using a rat on my board (and have a VT if needed). Still, was impressed and would’ve kept it if I didn’t need the $ for another cab and some home reno shiz.
Also, I don’t think the Locust Star is as impressive as folks make it out to be. If you are in that “just gotta know” zone, it totally makes sense. That said, I don’t think it’s in the same class as the VT or Cat Tail. YMMV…

Never even heard of that one, but it looks promising! That's pretty much how I feel about the Bass Mountain - I never hear about it, but I prefer it to my Cat Tail. In fact, the (stock) Cat Tail is my least favorite of the "boutique" Rats so far. (Not knocking it, and I'm very interested in a blend for it, just stating my opinion.) I'm not necessarily in the "gotta know" category on the Locust Star, as I also see PLENTY of Broughton stuff being sold/traded consistently, so I kinda wondered how much of it is hype. Dunwich stuff is far less easily found second hand, which tells me it's probably kept more often by those who get it! And for the prices I'd have to pay, even if I really wanted to know, I can't justify it.
Finally had some time to jam today, and my playlist of songs that I'm learning (or already know) just completely vanished off of my phone... So I ended up spending most of my time finding a new app to play my songs (this isn't the first time my playlists have disappeared!) and re-making my list.
Other than that, I'm still enjoying my dirt boxes. Need to get my Pharaoh cranked up again soon, as it seemed in danger of being lost in the mix today. I know it likes to be played loud, so that's probably all it is. Worst case, I can always use my Swollen Pickle - it's got plenty of highs on tap to cut and retains bass like crazy. Also briefly got out my old Supercollider '71 - sounds better on bass than I recalled. Gotta try that at volume too. And keep learning new material, probably sticking with my German thrash bent of late.

Awesome. This new drummer is a monster. Never thought I’d say this after the last homie left town, but I think he’s gonna make us a better band. There’s something totally different about the way he approaches our stuff and what he brings to it. Left practice absolutely ecstatic yesterday.
Only thing is… at his place the room is SMALL… so my master plan of going no pedals and playing just through the overdriven V-4b couldn’t happen because I couldn’t turn up loud enough. Damn. I had to settle for the MBD-1 into the ‘Peg on max input gain but the master at like, 9:30. (And by settle I mean it sounded freaking magnificent…) I love and hate having an efficient cab…
Also shag Mondays. I hate being up for work right now.
Sucks about the playlist. It's not a world-ender, but just irritating enough.
The weekend was alright, had to work Saturday, but it was slow, so spent a lot of it watching YT. Then, we got some snow. Ugh. So, I went out to try to get my snowblower going, which I couldn't on the last big snow, which sucked heard. Monkeyed with it for a bit, finally it fired up and the driveway was done in about 15 minutes. Yay!!
Then off to a buddy's to eat pizza and watch the footballs. I brought a really nice cabernet with me, and it paired well with the high-quality pizza. (Green peppers and onions, since my usual banana peppers and onions gets veto'd all the time.) The usual arguing about music entailed when the game became a rout, and we debated the merits of people/bands in the rock hall of fame.
Sunday was couch, footballs, bass.
