Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Went and saw OFF! tonight. They did not disappoint in either the noise or the hardcore departments.
Picked up my bass after about 3 months of looking at it sitting on the stand. Not sure what happened, just lost any interest in playing it for a while. It was....as you would expect when a limited player takes time off playing. At least the dog didn't bite me for irritating her.
I also haven't touched my bass in about... 2 months? Just too busy. Life stuff. Nothing bad, but just stuff. Got to play for a few minutes today for the first time in forever. Which brought on an unexpected but completely obvious revelation about my Pharaoh Supreme. The "Pre" knob is basically, a "wool" knob. The lower it is, the more defined the highs are. (Use that info as you will!) So simple, but it still took me years to figure that out and put into words. Made my life easier. Now, I'm feeling absolutely exhausted from the other life stuff and will probably just chill all day and recuperate. I need it.
Jammed with some friends on Friday, basement, standard old man rock stuff. I got too lubed and was screwing stuff up right and left. Still had fun, though. Hands, arms, and shoulders payed the price on Saturday, though.
This band used to be 2 guitars, me, drums, and singer, but one of the guitarists doesn't attend anymore. (Probably because of me. We had a bit of a falling out.) The one who left was always way too loud, played over the other (less adept) guitar player when he was trying to solo, and stomped all over my sonic space by cranking the bass on his amp up. The result of this, and of the remaining guitar player buying an inexpensive set of e-drums, is that our jam volume was much lower and everyone had a better time. More sonic space, less blasting, more ability to hear other players.

Morning, all. Got a bit of my bass playing urge back and jammed a little to some rock songs, while watching a bad horror movie "Forget Me Not". I don't recommend it.
I can recommend "From Black", a deftly directed movie. While a standard horror storyline, a bit more nuanced and interesting.

For laughs and cheap promo I've been posting LUGGY's records on w. coast craigslist musicians classifieds....somebody responded to the LA one with lots of 'meh's' and other that's-like-your-opinion-maaaan critiques. Funnily enough he said he couldn't hear the bass much because it was overpowered by the sound of the waves on board his yacht in the Galapagos. LOL.
I asked him to send links to his records so I could review them..........crickets.

It is an un-achieved dream of mine to chill out with Galapagos tortoises and listen to metal. Low and slow, low and slow... A man can dream.
That's pretty much a Galapagos tortoise's life in a nutshell.

My stoner/doom band got a drummer and that's been coming along nicely. Hopefully soon I'll drop a few demos in here.
I also joined a country band, something I never thought I'd do. But man it's fun getting people to two step, and it pays. Lots of drama in that one though, but I think we're about to be past it.

Congratulations on finding a drummer for your doom band. In my experience it has always been difficult to find drummers that want to play in Doom bands because there's really not a lot of room for them to do any flashy playing because it's so slow and meticulous

That's kind of how it was for us. There's a big thrash scene in Houston so those guys were way more typical than someone who could play at 65 Bpm for 10 minutes+. But the main thing for us was getting someone who we could get along with and would actually practice, which was harder than finding someone who could play in the genre IMO
I'll also add we found our drummer on Vampr, which is like Tinder for bands lol. We found a few drummers, some ghosted, a couple we jammed with and one worked out. All in all I'd say it was marginally better than finding people to jam with on craigslist
