Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

New Board. Just in time for the gig tonight opening for The Obsessed. The pog->muff is chef's kiss. The loop pedal (left of the muff) let's me have the pog/muff on/off with one stomp. Very nifty little passive $30 pedal from Saturnworks.

Stoked I'm gonna be able to make it tonight! You know when you guys are going on. I'm shooting to make it by 7 at least.

Saturn works is great stuff. How do you like the Broughton? Is that for the signal to the guitar amp only?

Been having problems with my Hilbish Beta 700 and the UK Filter Mode. It won't WAh, but on my AMPEG 108 practice amp, it works as it should. I started a thread over at the AMP section, and wrote to Hilbish and waiting to hear back. BTW the amp is 300$ off! which is annoying because I paid full price, it would've been a huge savings with CDN exchange rate...

I love that I have almost never seen or heard of most of these pedals. Go variety!

Awesome board! That issue sounds brutal, I would be pulling my hair out for sure.

Just got a couple muff variants, I need to do a legitimate comparison. I think on hand, I've got a tall font, Elk, IC, civil war, triangle, and whichever the hoof is supposed to be.
I've got most of the CMC Muff variants. My overall favorite is the Bubble Font, but pretty much any of them can be used on bass depending on needs. It really is dependent on the mix! Of those you listed, I'd probably say Tall Font is my favorite, though I've never tried a Hoof or IC. The Triangle surprised me, as I expected it to not be great for bass, but rolling back the tone to noon and maxing the mids (the CMCs have a mids knob) really let it rip!

Enjoy your comparison!

Got a chance to try em, was very surprised. Had 30 mins at home yesterday to crank it out. I'll have a report asap, got way too much tied up in muffs haha! I think I'm gonna move all but one and pick up some CMC's.

Oh and so not to confuse anyone, the tape on the triangle is to try to keep the space a bit pg for the kiddos. Not something I'd wanna have explain to the wife haha!

That's pretty much what happened here with me. I've slowly gotten rid of many of my Muffs, and now just use the CMCs for most things. I DID keep my two favorite non-CMCs (the Pharaoh Supreme and Swollen Pickle) since they're incredibly versatile and can do pretty much anything Muff-wise, but I'm actively offloading other Muffs. Instead, I've collected most of the CMC Muff offerings and have small form factor Muffs that are each tailored to a specific Muff topology, and I can often get 2-3 of them for the price of a "boutique" Muff. So I say it's a win for everyone!

Yeah that makes sense, I could see for something to gig regularly with or for your main muff pref going with a higher end version if you notice a difference., Then fill out the ranks with CMC and such to move the cash to other gear.

I will say I think I'll end up keeping either the Triangle or Box of War. The war has a darker, but more mid/less scooped sound. Tons of lows when needed and lower gain like the tall font. I like the low end on it more, not sure how to describe the difference, but that's why I dig it a bit more than the tall font personally.

The triangle, though more scooped has the right cut and somehow still keeps a lot of lows. The lows are tight but still very hefty and it has tons of gain and output. The Elk gets very close, is more versatile even, but the triangle has something in the mid voicing that I prefer.

Honestly it's tough to really go for one over another, they all have things they do better than the others.

Anyway, I'll have the others up in the classifieds soon. Not sure if I'll stay with both the box of war and triangle or just one. Wild how versatile they all can be with all the mods.

I don't plan on moving the hoof reaper either, the hoof portion covers most of the muffs in one way or another to a close enough degree to pass in a mix or gig.

Anyway enough rambling haha!
