Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

what happened with the Red Fang vinyl?

They gave it a holographic cover and charged $50.

The prices for new vinyl have gotten stupidly high. Remember when a new pressing of vinyl was the price, if not cheaper than the CD?

I collect vinyl but it's mostly classic rock, classic country, metal and obscure heavy and psych stuff from the sixties and seventies. I'll rarely pay more than ten bucks for a record. As much as I'd like to buy current vinyl, it's hard to justify the cost.

Well, CDs also used to cost $20... You'd rarely pay more than ten bucks for a record? That's basically cost price. I feel $15 for a standard sleeve + black vinyl is pretty standard, and I'd pay up to $30 for a nice gatefold color splatter record.

Ha Ha... Found the ATK in the classifieds. Lest see how much to ship it cross country.

The blue moon ATK700? Every time I see one of those I want to buy it, because I still regret selling mine. Awesome basses.

I think it depends on the band. As a not well known independent band we found extremely hard to sell vinyl even at $20 a pop. We resorted to selling vinyl at below cost and we make up the difference with digital sales (although people are paying less and not as often for digital) and from money we get for playing live shows. Even our latest record we're selling at a loss. It sucks but we'd rather get our music out there. In about 2 years (hopefully sooner this time) we'll break-even and record another :)

It's nice because a couple of distros from Europe contacted us. Originally they wanted to do a consignment deal but once we told them what our wholesale prices were they just bought the records up front. Hopefully taking a bit off a loss pays off in the end. We'd rather increase the number of record sales than increase the amount we make from sales.

That sounds like a pretty logical approach.

Sure. But the term is a ****** slang Angelino term for the city.

You seem to think I'm kidding. I'm really not.

You do what you gotta do man, I'm not here to push your buttons.

Mowing is like a colonic. Shaking everything loose. Have to keep stopping to run inside and make some compost.

Also whoever lived here before me littered their yard to oblivion so I walk around with a bag and a bucket first and find as much garbage and recyclable waste. Also rocks and wood collected. I need a saw and axe.

This fall is gonna be one big backyard pagan bonfire.
