Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That is cool. I used to have a VFE Alpha Dog rat clone that was pretty sweet.
Vintage mode. Filter is rolled pretty much off. Distortion is about 9-10 o'clock. Volume to unity with behringer sansamp clone. The range of usable tone is pretty slim. But the sound it gets is really good through my set up. Not sure why I haven't gone rat before now. Using the Joyo as my booster for heavy parts. Rat clone is always on. I like where my tone is at. Even the producer for our record was ogling my little mini pedal. I let him hear it, then I told him what I spent and he was amazed. Can't wait to push the p bass through it.

Thanks for the tips on the g&l necks. I might be able to get one next week... Maybe.

In the company of serpents is selling size medium of a certain design for $5. Get one if you wear medium at their bandcamp. Those guys are super awesome.

Nah, let Corey run the risk if he deems it so
It needs a Front Toward Enemy sign on it like a claymore mine on it.

Only one of your preamps, I would assume. Do you have a self destruct mechanism built into the amp, that if another manufacturers (patently inferior) preamp is used, a fiery explosion ensues? Or maybe a shrapnel storm?

Luckily, I already have a Dunwich preamp as well. Nick could always make me a sweet Soldano style preamp for guitar if he wants though lol.

Nice cab, but $2500 for an unloaded box? It's way cool, but I don't think its two and a half grand for no drivers cool.

Just buy a Hiwatt badge and get someone to build you a clone.

not even sure the cab would sound good. probably sound ok, but not worth the money.
As for how it sounds... how much do you like John Entwistle's tone at Woodstock, Isle of Wight, and Live at Leeds? That's when he still had his Hiwatt rig, which included some of those 4x15 cabs.

My pubes beg to differ.
I don't know what it is, but my pubes are against it. Unless it's more pubes. They're for that.

my other problem is symmetry, theres no way id find another one haha.
More reason to have a clone built. Not sure what drivers they used or would be comparable, though.

A few nicer shots of Corey's amp. Electrically up and running. A bit cold biased still, will adjust soon. Sounding as I expected. Very similar to Ron's Ampeg preamp channel but a bit more gain available (not a lot overall but Ron's was very very clean). Different mid range EQ points but they sound very nice on bass and guitar. Good Master sweep, does not go up too fast.

final guts for the moment

What are the midrange EQ points? Is the frequency knob a switch between set frequencies or a sweep?

Maybe there's a countdown during which time you can safely unplug the offending preamp.

If I ever had the need, and the dough, to have Nick make me an amp, it's going to be named "Front Toward Enemy".
Lol, awesome. If I land a steady job that pays enough for me to buy music gear I don't technically need, I probably will also get some overpowered custom monstrosity.

Got Rushing to send me a bunch of photos of that slick pedalboard he built. Gonna get my carpenter brother in law to help me build it. My current board is bigger than I need, and the case it goes into is too heavy and the handle is attached to the top which makes it a mother shager to carry, so I only use it for touring, and when I carry my current board around without the case my knobs are always getting bumped.

Man, I can't wait for you dudes to hear this record. It's sounding really good. We got the order all figured out. We guesstimated that 5 songs will fit on an LP so we went based on that. 22mins on one side and 24 on the other.
Just be careful. Most places won't guarantee audio quality if a side is more than 20 min.

Man those things are wicked. Takes me back to my days skirmishing with Charlie on the Ho Chi Minh Trail near the Cambodian border. The horror...

Just got the mastered songs from Carl...put them on CD, bout to jam on my way to MGR to pick up that cab I should not have bought. Report upon return.

Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest.

Got to fool around with practice ones in Army basic taining. Them and tossing live grenades was cool but creepy at the same time, like damn if you really had to use these things shite just got real and way too up close and personal.

Cab I shouldn't have bought. Great cab though makes my Valve Jr sound massive, in a tiny DOOM way.

New full wall of peavey pic tomorrow night. I'm also gonna open it up and see what speakers are in it.

And the mastered tracks are perfect, I wouldnt change a thing, its ready for plastic and wax. My drummer has the very picky ear though, well see if he likes them.

Bouncing Betty's are pretty nasty too. But anything that's designed to arc a bucket load of ball bearings or metal shrapnel into you and your squad is bound to be I suppose.

I always wondered about live grenades their blast radius (that I've read about) always seemed quite large, I doubt I could toss one far enough away to prevent Lieutenant Dan'ing myself (losing a limbs a big fear of mine).
