Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Bummer about the dually Bryce. Good luck. I have yet to play my Bassic louder than 5 on my Orange Terror. I need to set it up in the yard and crank it.
Here's some goat and pig pics for you. Stookey shed his hair for the summer, he reminds me of a baby elephant now. Also pic of newborn sugar gliders. One is a ringtail and the other a silver mosiac.

What's your amp settings on the mb500? Amp settings thru one cab can crap the bed on another cab. Have you tried different cables?

I've done so many setting from everything off to everything dimed etc. I spent several hours on it. And I got a few cables and different amps like I said.

I don't want to sound like I hate the stuff. I still believe greenboy designs are the best. I just think mines got something wrong. That said in that frame of mind, I'd imagine sometimes the gk might sounds lack luster, but it wouldn't sound like burfizzzzzzt

Pm'd greenboy himself on his forum late last night, so the wait begins. If anyone knows numbers I should call Monday please pm.

I kept/keep contemplating taking it to like guitar center to try with other heads and cables, but

A. I paid $1,200+ I shouldn't have to be forced to "find the right amp for it", no one else seems to.

B. I'm immediately goingto be embarrassed when I lug in my own massive cab with no markings and it can't recreate an E at over small coffee gig volume.

C. Until I hear from someone I'm not playing into it again, I don't want to be blamed for it's problems.

That sucks. Hope it all works out.

Good point, if the exotic pet game sizzles out, he's got himself an exotic game restaurant. Micro pork belly served with a glazed sugar glider... just need a bed of field greens.

Reminds me of a sign my dad saw once in a yard in Detroit, "rabbits for sale pets or food!".

That sucks. Hope it all works out.

Thanks, I waited until I finished school and moved to be sure I was relatively free to tackle the issue. I wanted to test it thoroughly and loudly. Wouldn't have been fair to say anything if I'd only played it in my apartment.

I wouldn't go trouble shoot it at guitar center. If their is a smaller shop with better knowledgable people I would take it there. Someone could diagnose it very quickly with a few tests. I would take your cab, main bass, mb500, and cables. When I got there I would have them meter the cab with a multi meter. Have them use their tools and cables. Make sure it's the proper 4 ohm load. Should be around 3.5 to 4.0 when read. After that hook all your stuff up and show them what it's doing. I would be able to tell after that where to go or what to swap if it was any part of your components. Hopefully you can figure it out soon.

Askrere, it definitely sounds like the cab is defective. I wouldn't bother bringing to it a store or anything like that. Just contact the builder and go from there. Having some tech fiddle around with it would not be a good idea, in my opinion. The person that built it will have the best idea of what's wrong and how to go about fixing it.

Also

A. Any amp should work. I have tested a host of amps thru my BASSIC loaded with a 3015. I don't think you should have problems an long as the amp can run and the load the speaker cab Is capable of

B. No reason to be embarrassed. I will lug a rig to my buddy's house or my local shop if i think something Is messes up in my rig. More hands equal more help.

C. That shouldn't be a concern. Mark is a stand up dude and stands behind his stuff. If I were him I would want you to exhaust all possibilities that it's not a part of your set up and the cab itself.

Short story-

I loaded up my heavy ass SVT and drove it across town to a tech and dropped it off for service. It was distorting and giving me a fit. I borrowed a amp and found I had the same issue. I had a bad patch cable on my pedal board. Had to call the next day and drive over to pick that heavy bastard back up and explain what was the real problem. That's embarrassing :).

I forgot to mention I also used the Demeter/power amp setup, and I guess I could try my friends valve king when I get home today.

That's why I'm worried though, any amp should work, but they don't so far. If I find out all of a sudden an amp "works" that means either all of a sudden every amp and cable I've encountered and own is broken or I'm left with a pricey cab that only works with certain pieces of gear, which I didn't sign up for.
