Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I know aside from joe you guys probably don't flip on craigslist nearly as much as me, but do you get hassled by friends to help them sell crap?

I think my friends and some family got it in there heads I'm like antique roadshow/pawn stars out of my living room. They'll bring stuff and ask me what it's worth and get mad when I can't answer.

True story: my friend shows up with a porcelain elephant and wants to know exactly what he'll get for it and how long that would take to sell?!?

People also ask my opinion about flipping stuff themselves... I always say it's a good idea if you find promising stuff or a niche, do the research and try and see. They then get pissy that I didn't simply say "yes go do it, I guarantee you'll be rich in like 5 seconds!"

My moms friends son asked me how to get into refinishing boats and flipping them lol. I don't own a boat man, never have, so first steps probably ask anyone but me.

Yeah, I still have my buddy's 80's Gibson Flying V bass. It needs new strings before I can do a setup on it, but he hasn't bought any for it yet. So it's still just sitting in my closet. He wants to put it up on ebay, but asked if I knew anyone who'd be interested in it. I don't...at least that can actually afford to buy it.

Sounds like a good candidate for Reverb.com. That place is perfect for rare stuff with high asking prices.

You have had that a while. He could try reverb I guess. Or I'd imagine something like that is worth posting in like LA or San Francisco and other markets. For what it costs I bet someone would drive for it easy.

Edit: already beaten to the reverb punch.

Good suggestion guys, I will mention that to him. He has an ebay store for vintage toys, skate decks and pro skater merch. So I know he's more comfortable with ebay, but Reverb might be a better market to get it sold.

What's one of those beauties worth?

It varies depending on the condition and finish. Up to $5k for the most rare ones, they only made them for one year. His is all original, except for the bridge. It was retrofitted with a Badass Bridge and the luthier put a metal plate under it to get it lined up properly and looking ok. An improvement in my opinion, the original bridge is a pain in the butt. I think he's looking to get about $2k for his.

About to put the speakers and recessed handle on tonight, end up being only 60!
