Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Interesting. I'd been curious about Sound City amps, but held off because I heard conflicting things about the EQ. Some said they were similar to Hiwatts, which, while cool, have a useless passive mid. I might look out for a MkIV or later Sound City in the future, now knowing they have an active EQ. I prefer active EQ for bass, passive for guitar.

I'm betting you can find one to try out. The MkIV models seem to be the most abundant on the used market. I've sold a couple in your neck of the woods in the past few years and I know a couple other people who have as well.

Fun stuff waiting for me after I got home from work.
Joe I love the t-shirt, cool graphic on the front and song line on the back. Nice quality made shirt too, not sure how you sell them so cheap especially with shipping included.

I'm sure I could find one. It's just that I'm not in a financial position to be buying amps I don't actually need right now.

How clean/dirty sounding are they? The only time I've seen one used for bass in person was the first time I saw Yob, and there it was difficult to tell because I think he also had a pedal going.

It's either do that, or save for the hi-tone, in which case the big rig is HT200+2x2000s cabs and the small rig is 2000s/1x15 + 1200s/1x15 and the 200s is backup. Or any combo of the above.
Yes. Maybe HT200 to one 2x15 and 2000S or 1200S to the other.

What up dudes, I'm checking in from the road. I'm in K.C. coz the mrs. got us tix to see McCartney last night. Fantastic show, any Beatle/Macca fans here? Driving home Fri in time for two weekend gigs. Should be a great one. I'll be using the 3620 for the first time b/c I'm sharing it with two other bassists and they can help schlep it. ;)
I get in a Beatles mood sometimes. Dig them quite a bit. Never could go for anything any of them did outside the group though. Not a fan of Lennon or Harrison or McCarthy solo. Just feels incomplete. Kinda like sabbath without Ozzy although that still rocks even if it's lesser.

They're clean (for a vintage tube amp) for a long time, then really dirty when you get everything dimed. Including the tone knobs, since they're active.

Here's a song using the B120 I used to have, pushed fairly hard, into my 810 by a band I recorded back in 2008...

Eh, I'm kinda the same way. Except that I actually prefer Sabbath with Dio.

Not really that into Dio without Sabbath, though. And especially not into Ozzy without Sabbath.

Really cool bass tone.

Being clean for a long time, though, I dunno. Kinda prefer to be able to get a bit of overdrive from the amp without having to dime the overall volume.
