Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

This is what .50 cents at goodwill got me, several years ago thinking someday it'd come in handy. 9v powered, I wonder how it'd fare with bass or guitar? Just no volume and with it into my crate practice amp it's pretty loud for night use but I can't control it. Sounded good though.
I have one of those. Used it until I saved a few pennies for a Cambridge audio phono pre. It was great for the price.

So I finally got to see KISS last night. Wow, hands down the most over the top show I have ever seen. Go see them if you haven't before.
Should have my first practice with the EHX Freeze later. The sounds I've gotten in the house have been pretty encouraging. It works really well with the EHX Cathedral, and having it early in the chain means I can crank the volume on it and get some nice breakup from the VT Bass. By balancing the volume of the Freeze and the Mix on the Echo Shifter, I can add some cool self-oscillation over the top of the drone too.

Now that's the right kind of pricing! I've gotten bad with records... I'll spend upwards of $25 on one if I really want it. Not a lot of my thrift store finds are in good enough condition to really play, but I keep them for the cover artwork. Might turn some of them into record pickguards.
Just hunt around local thrift stores and find some old hifi equipment. I've scored some nice power amps and some really nice home theater speakers for super cheap. Running some Polk 5.25" two way bookshelf speakers as studio monitors/fo record listening right now and they sound fantastic. $15.00.
I think you have the same turntable as I do, though mine is the black version. Definitely a nice score for free! The audio technica P-mount carts are really good for the price if yours needs replaced. Otherwise the belt just needs changed every now and again.
I think someone already answered this, but yeah it boosts highs and lows, basically for listening with the volume down while still "sounding loud". I also like my system as flat as possible. Right now it's just turntable>cheap EQless phonic pre>power amp. Sounds great. If I had a frequency analyzer and a good hardware EQ, I'd adjust it to be flatter. But for now it's just volume and it sounds fantastically clear.
First off, make sure that you're storing your records vertically, and not stacking them on top of each other. Leaving them stacked will cause them to warp. The should be stored like books, on a shelf.
As far as shipping goes, they need to be in pretty rigid 12x12" boxes. I wouldn't recommend shipping them in anything where they're loose or where they would be able to bend. Otherwise, as long as the records are clean and free from scratches you should be able to sell on ebay or amazon just fine. Amazon might be easier, since you don't really need to worry about pictures and can just type in a brief description.
In other news, started dehydrating some beef jerky yesterday. Going to have some sweet and spicy, some teriyaki, and some peppered. A select part of it is prime flank steak, the rest is some finely sliced slightly lower grade stuff. It's been a nice weekend and the house smells fantastic.
Also got the project studio more organized and started composing some of this "Underground Speakeasy Doom Alternate World" concept album. We'll see how far it goes but I have a friend who might be on board with forming a band around the idea. It will probably be a mix of some different kinds of music, I'm thinking some songs will kind of be laid back, clean 70's/doors type stuff to narrate things. But there will also be riffage.

FN Mondays. girlfriend breaks down on the way too work, took five jumps to get it back home. Pulled the battery out to go buy a new one without getting dirty at least. Two hours late to work. Stupid Chevy Tracker, the damn battery is as much as a nice high end pedal argh, but Boom won't get you home I guess.

Yeah, there was some ugliness in those 2 sub-forums that got the mods pretty fired up.

I stranded me yesterday when I took a load of garbage to the dump. I just had gym shorts and it is like only a quarter mile to the dump so left my cell at home. So yeah I got an unintended morning stroll yesterday LOL. I charged it yesterday but it kept saying full charge at 10 volts. Wanted to get it tested to see if it was the battery or the alternator but just buying a battery. Worse case I end up with a new battery and an alternator I guess. Rural living is nice, till you need a parts store.
