Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Finally got the tone pot in the 30 Day bass working lol. The pot was fine my dumb arse didn't read the schematic right at the tone pot and mistakenly shifted over a leg on the pot. Slapped some Fender Tapewounds, so dig the way they sound and look.

Yeah, that sounds awkward alright.

Lol first time that occurred he took me to Shakespeare in the park and I so didn't want to go regardless (I really don't dig that guys stuff) but he was bringing a lot of good beer. Anyways then we stop and pickup some girl and she's all dressed nice and made a picnic for two. I stayed on the far edge of the picnic blanket, and drank myself happy then ran to his car to burn a tree branch.

He never heard from her again surprisingly.

I think someone just tried to scam me on Kijiji?
They kept wanting to pay me via a cashiers check when I wanted cash and asking for a bunch of personal info.
Get lost jerk.

I had that happen he was so adamant and I kept telling him to go away. Does Kijiji mean something?

Sounds good Sam!

By the way, you or one of the other Canadians here needs to buy the thing so I can stop pining for it.

Never tried one of those. What's the EQ like?

Going to watch this friend of mines stand up tonight, hope it goes well. I only recently started hanging with her. She seems really cocky about her set so I hope it's easy to laugh at. I'd feel terrible faking laughing solo in an audience.
If she's cocky, she'll at least have enough confidence I guess.

I could never be a stand-up comic, so I don't really know much about it.

I guess on the what's right to call people stuff. Part of my thinking is the terms we call people are generally used to describe people to others for a particular description of them. I don't just call my gay friends gay, they have names. So I'd never walk up to a transvestite and call them that as a qualifier to get their attention. But if that transvestite gets in a fight with a xenophobic man from Kuwait I'll use the descriptors to inform others of the event as humorously as possible.

Perhaps tranny is wrong, but stuff like that's on the individual I find to truly get offended or not and the situation. Intent and inflection (which the internet loses a bit) go a long way into determining how offensive something is. I'll watch myself in the future, but like I said qualifiers are mainly used by me to tell someone else a detail, not talk to a person directly. If the transvestite/genderqueer/drag whatever ambiguous person wants me to call/describe/refer to them as something they usually tell me so with great gusto and pride. It's par for the course, I imagine, as they know they are different, and want to let you know what's up. And that is the best way (to me) to determine how to refer to anyone, out of respect. Most anyone who identify themselves a particular way other than straight I've met are pretty chill though. They get bullied and picked on enough, they don't waste more time getting offended by the people who mean well so they correct or alert you ahead of time if they feel the need to.

I have met people who seemingly want to be offended and have it out. I simply avoid them, as they aren't looking to educate or be helpful, they just want to lash out at the world.
I generally don't use a term that someone who the term refers to informs is a slur. I just don't do it. Even if it would be funny. Humor, to me, isn't worth pooping on people that society already ***** on enough.

I also firmly believe that generally if a word is a slur, only the people to whom the slur refers can really use it without looking like a bit of an *******. It belongs to them. You know, like how black people can call each other "nigga" all the time, but since I'm not black, I should avoid doing so.

Some things don't really depend on inflection. But it doesn't make someone a bigot if they just didn't know (although it's embarrassing to find out, at least for me, that a term I've been using isn't okay, but the people informing me usually aren't that angry about it, as they assume I just didn't know).

So I'd guess if she isn't hot she might be funny.
Hot chicks make terrible stand up comics.
Mildly frumpy girls are damn funny.
Nature has rules.
I dunno, there was this one chick doing stand up who I thought was hilarious and also very cute... but she was a lesbian.

She should use that bit lol.

Nah my friend is nearly 10 years older than me and still a bachelor and does the dating site thing. Nothing wrong with that, but he tends to decide most are just friends but then doesn't say anything to that affect and let's the girl keep acting touchy/flirty. So those that don't catch on get kinda mad. I think he thinks by quickly introducing a girl to his friends it's like saying we just friends, but I'm pretty sure the majority think he's trying to share his life with them.

Nothing is more awkward than when he tells me we are going to meet one of his friends and we get wherever and it's some girl expecting a date and I'm riding shotgun. I've since told him not to do that as it's not fun for anyone but him.
That is possibly not the best way to go about doing what he's trying to do. Not the best with communication, is he?

Ugh, shag scammers.

I remember when I was trying to sell my old bass amp, dude sent me a giant check from a nonexistent bank. His poor communication he blamed on being deaf. My reaction, obviously, was "so why are you trying to buy a bass amp, then, jackass?"

Sarah Silverman is cute, but can get annoying.

He's not from America and a PHd so while I understand him fine, some things he'll say and do are kinda out their, and you can tell he's lived the 3rd world life. He once flicked a bunch of roaches off some food and tried to offer it to me...

Lol he was planning on enjoying the low end rumble and you took that from him. This one guy didn't scam me, but he had like cerebral palsy and was all sorts of afflicted. He came to buy my peavey Windsor head and said I can't play, will you play it to prove it works. Then I sell it to him and he says it's a backup for his jcm800 full stack. Didn't want to be a dick but I'm really curious what he needs either amp for if he can't play.

There money to be had flipping records? Seems some are asking quite a bit of money for the fact I spent 0.00-0.49 on each of them.

Really disappointed one was the Beatles first ever album cover, but Help! is inside it...victory but the crazy victory it could of been.

Not a country fan but I dig the old stuff, and that stone county one is old ozark hillbillies twanging out traditional songs

Sarah Silverman is hit or miss for me. Some of her stuff is hilarious, some is just gross and not very funny.

Ah, I see. So he doesn't get some social norms.

And... the scammer was... well, I eventually strung him along after contacting law enforcement. I think they eventually got him for another scam, actually.

Why would he need a JCM800 fullstack if he can't play? Let alone a backup? Does he own a studio or something?

Free record player day, guys I'm a vinyl guy now. But my rule to myself is I can only get cheap stuff that's odd and is probably not found elsewhere or just good deals. Maybe $5 tops. So far I have like 40 vinyls and only spent around $8-$10..

NENA 99LUFTBALLONS time!
WOOT WOOT

That is an awesome thing to get free.

Who cares what he needs it for if he's got money. I once sold a muscle car to a guy that was too fat to sit behind the wheel. I had to drive him around on the test drive, then drive the car to his house. His wife gave me a ride home, pissing and moaning the whole time because he bought the car without telling her and he had half a dozen rusted heaps in the yard.

Man there's some decent albums in this stack of free stuff.

My rigs ghetto and offers no volume or EQ options. Is that cool though? It comes out as intended? Or should I rig up my Demeter pre Instead and have tubes and control?

Lmao, that's amazing.

What kind of muscle car, btw? I'll probably never own one, but I still think they look pretty cool.

Psh, EQ options. Who needs those?

In all seriousness, actually, transparency is actually something I want when it comes to a stereo system. I want it to be dead flat, or as close to it as possible. At least in the range where human hearing is sensitive. I don't want to have to twiddle knobs. With my own I usually just leave things as they are.

Actually, question for people with record players and older stereo amps... what does the "loudness" button/switch actually do? It seems to change the sound as well as boosting the volume.

Found a local Ampeg 8x10 I'm gonna pick up on the 15th for 275, it's in rough shape but all the speakers look good, might swap em out for my eminence legends still have though, love how they sound. Just need a good a/b switch.
Hell yeah. I actually like the way beat-up Ampeg fridge cabs look.

To those of you who buy or ship vinyls what's a save way to ship but also economical? Was considering flipping some of these. I'll try the local store to get an estimate on what I can get the lazy route. But amazon eBay idk where I'd sell or what's good? But these are cheap investments if they move for more than $0-$5.

I think you might need a cheap phono preamp, to get the right (RIAA) eq.

Rolls makes one for 52.

There's a Behringer one for 20, but I can't vouch for it.
