Spent the weekend cleaning the house and it's back to the grind.
Think life has settled enough around here for me to start a new band. Been far far too long.

You can't find a WRX even remotely close by? I'm a Subaru nerd and the WRX would be a fantastic car. Definitely worth going a little out of your way to get.

Yeah when I bought my last Honda I had it shipped about 300 miles to me. Was worth the cost, I got exactly what I wanted.

Been running a little distortion on top of my Fuzzrocious Demon lately and really liking the little extra grind. Right now it's just running through my Peavey XXL since my Orange took a dump. Anyone have a favorite distortion for bass that is meant for bass?

Nope, can't find a single 2015 WRX nearby. Dealer was very honest, said any new ones coming in would be there in a month and they had all been purchased already.

Mazda 6 looks like a killer car, and comes in just around 30k fully loaded, but no AWD version, a little boring with no turbo option, and it's hard to justify when I can get a turbo and awd out of a Kia and also get 3 times the warranty.

However, I'm thinking now we may just do a 3 year lease. We're trying to buy a house. Can use the insurance money for my totaled car to help with the mortgage down payment, and in 3 years I can get something I REALLY want without the strict timeline of having a totaled car.

Buy a solid used car for $15k, and save the rest for the house. No sense in spending that kind of dough if you have bigger plans. A car is simply a device to drag you from point A to point B.

Speaking of cars, spent the whole weekend doing research. Finally settled on the 2015 WRX, got real excited about it, then found out all local dealerships are sold out, and if I custom ordered one it would be here in 5 months. Poop. So now I'm looking at Optimas and probably the Fusions.

I can't believe how hard it is to get a WRX in PA. There are none in the Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, or Philly areas. Yet, I checked near where my brother lives in Memphis and every dealer has at least one (of course this is stretched out across a number of states). Why would a place where it rarely snows have so many WRXs and there are none in PA? Though there are a bunch of BRZs which are rear drive only. Strange indeed.

Do you live in the city proper? You will want to think long and hard about a lease. You are responsible for all damages to the car and my car picks up dings and scraps like crazy living in the city. Plus if you drive a lot and go over the mileage limit that is a crazy expense.

I don't get the vinyl thing. I was born in 1964. I grew up listening to vinyl and the scratches and skips and I don't miss it. I love cd's and MP3's, yet it's scorned at by all the people that listen to this genre. I've been enjoying this kind of slow, de-tuned, turned up music since my uncle played the first Sabbath record (yes, vinyl) in a dark room at pretty unreasonable, yet enjoyable for a seven year old, levels. I've been collecting cd's and ripping them to high bit rate MP3's for years. And... like the rest of us, I've downloaded tunes to check out what's new and interesting. Like with Ron's band, first I checked them out on YouTube, checking out some play-lists and then downloaded a couple of albums and like the rest of us, bought the rest from their sight. I can see where vinyl is a cool retro thing, but seriously, I'd rather have a cd that I can rip onto my iPod and play in the car through my Bluetooth connection. I can't see too many of us older guys (and girls) who lived through the different stages of recorded music, just dying to hear some scratchy vinyl and heaven forbid you walk across the room in an older home or feel the need to dance, or sneeze.

I feel the same way about cassettes. The cassette resurgence really confuses me. Anyone that lived through that ******** should have no desire to go back. Wow and flutter, machines eating tapes, fast-forward and rewind, constant degradation, damage from magnets, shaging warping in a hot car... I hate those things with a passion.

As for vinyl - I collect old stuff on vinyl, classic metal, classic rock, old punk and hardcore, more obscure heavy rock bands from the 60s and 70s. It's fun and inexpensive. No interest in spending the money for expensive contemporary releases, though. I'd rather get the CD.

CD's drive me nuts too, getting scratched and skipping. I always download them so I have a master in case I jazz one up. I need to join the modern world by utilizing my phone and MP3 player more. I usually just end up listening to NPR in the car.

Get a bench grinder, slap a buffing wheel on there, get some buffing compound and buff those scratched CDs. Works 90%-95% of the time.

I dig vinyl for the whole ritualistic aspect of listening to a record. When I'm listening to vinyl I'm paying attention, it's my focus, I'm not worrying about driving, or walking into people, not doing chores or anything. I'm sitting and listening to music, that coupled with my stereo setup is of a pretty high quality, I get to enjoy what I'm hearing at a much better sonic capability that earbud, my car, or a computer.

Yeah there's upkeep and things can get warped scratched and dusty, but nothing that's good stays pristine forever.

I definitely see where you're coming from. I have no problem with FLAC files and am okay with high bitrate mp3s as well. I listen to those in the car and when I'm at work. But as long as I keep my records clean, I don't experience much in the way of popping and have never had anything skip. There's just a certain warmth and dynamic range to vinyl. Even with modern music, it seems that the vinyl masters have less of a brick wall than the digital releases of the same material. It makes me appreciate the music so much more having something physical and heavy that I can hold. I don't like CD's and my MP3 collection is a mess. But all of my albums are alphabetized and I can read through the spines quickly to find what I need. The artwork is sometimes incredible and looks so much more so on a 12x12" plane.

I just find it delightful, and think that it's worth keeping alive. I hope to make music one day that is worthy of a vinyl release.

Agreed. even my shitbox jetta is more fun to drive the poopie out of than the 2013 dodge charger I had as a rental for about a month. It was just so sterile. The 92 jetta on the other hand, is like a road legal go-kart.

I get that and when cd's first came out, I remember missing the big 12" sleeves and the pictures and the words. All that information that we used to get and impress are friends with. But like I said, I grew up with that and part of me misses that, like my childhood and hair, but part of me has moved on and tried to embrace the new and sometimes better format. Like art and music and.......bass tone. It's all subjective. I have a few LP's from the old days, but they're primarily display items as I don't even own a turntable anymore. I know some of you are mentally DE-friending me, but that's okay, at my age, I tend to forget where I've layed my MP3's and they're always out of the sleeve.
