Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

When we just got our album mastered last month, we made sure to tell the guy for a vinyl mastering whatever. So the CD and digital will be the one that is kinda off or whatever, vinyl will be the true listen experience for VEGA.

Also I would really love it if we could do our 2LP for $25, maybe even $20 if feasible.

The free record player I got i pop the record on and press start and it sets itself and starts playing. What do I do to clean the playing side? Nintendo cartridge blow method?

I have a discwasher thingy I forgot where I got it. It's got some corduroy on a handle and some cleaning fluid. You could probably get by with a substitute of very clean/soft tshirt material wadded up.

Put some drops of fluid on the disc - spread out radially. Take the shirt in left hand - wadded into a ball with a smooth surface. Spin the disc with the right hand slowly. Clean the disc by putting very light pressure on it as you spin. Start with the shirt-ball contacting near the thumb-side. As you keep spinning the disc, rotate your left hand to lift the dirt off and expose new/clean shirt to the disc and gradually increase pressure.

I pay a little more for colored vinyl, preorders that I'm excited about, and especially colored vinyl or picture discs. Oh, and double albums xD

not saying I've never paid more than $20 or won't again but it does make me think twice.

I am hesitant about buying modern vinyl because far too often I have bought records that were clearly just the CD pressed to vinyl. When properly mastered for vinyl, I will pick the LP over the CD any day of the week. Every new record I have ever bought does not skip and does not have excessive surface noise. My player has little shock absorber feet and the record never skips. I know that technically vinyl does not spec better than CD but it is the same thing as a tube amp versus the latest greatest solid state amp sure the solid state amp has better specs but the tube amp gives me what I want.

I miss the 90's when they put the 3 boxes with AAA or AAD or whatever so you knew if it was recorded, mixed, and mastered in analog or digtial.

I use a small Stanton carbon fiber brush. something like $20, just spin the record a few times with the brush lightly over it and sweep it to the side to get the dust off.

I stay out of OT. I can handle amps, some times, but OT/Band management is a cesspool.

I used to make the mistake of going into OT. I don't, these days. There is nothing for me there.

Band management is good for a laugh.

Yeah, that is annoying.

Shameless plug, but our album is a different master for every format. Whether it's due to the medium or not, I do honestly prefer the vinyl master.

Hadn't heard of using a brush like that before. But I'm quite a newbie in a lot of ways with vinyl.

Finally caught up. This is what we did. The tracks are ordered differently too. Going to be a bit before we get money for vinyl. I thought the shirts would sell a little quicker. Only sold a handful.

50 cents for an album full of sea shanties! That's why I'm happy I got a free setup, the cheap weird stuff I can't find easily. Quite crackly though I guess adds to the old noise. Is that why I'm supposed to clean them?

Is rubbing alcohol bad for them I use it to clean a lot of stuff

Howdy fellas. Just thought I'd mention, in case anyone's looking. Duane Denison ( Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk) just texted me to say he put his custom shop First Act Delia the Nashville CL. He's asking $850

That's the guitar he used when he was in my band (Legendary ShackShackers), and I always preferred it over his other guitars. Would buy it myself if I can hustle the money together quick enough
