Heel truss adjustment screams tokai factory :). Good score! And I had no idea a svt3 non pro existed. I too have owned and loved the svt2 non pro. You also might be surprised how good the aria sounds. Might not even need the swap. 2 tone burst too, killer!

Yeah, I was scrolling through pages of used amps and saw it, looked up to make sure it is what I thought it was, and then needed to own one. Pretty awesome, plus it was cheaper than buying just the preamp SVT-IIP anymore.

Definitely going to give the Aria a spin and see how the tone stacks up against the Hondo/Dimarzio. But considering the Hondo slayed my Fender, I'm doubtful that another random cheap bass will also slay that....if it does, I may get stuck in an endless cycle of cheap MIJ basses from the 70's where each one sounds better than the last. But you never know, they were both made at the Matsumoko factory around the same time...

I got mine from a friend who thought it was fried for like $50, but when I took it to a tech and they told me it wasn't broken, just needed a simple fix that cost me another $50. I gave my friend an additional $350 or something as I wasn't gonna screw him over. I sold it for about $500, seems about the going rate these days. When/if you do get it, be sure to bring it to a tech and have them isolate the heat-sink. It's a design flaw in the amp that causes them to blow up. However, once the heat-sink is properly isolated, those amps are amazing, and built like a tank. I gigged mine heavily at 2 ohms for years without a single problem. One of my favorite amps of all time.

Mij instruments are a sickness that can't be cured :) Such awesome quality and usually cheap.

Really not surprised by this. I've had similar problems since the beginning with mine.
Think I've convinced myself to go through a few steps to try and get it playable though. The last option would be to get an old USA Peavey Fury and do a pickup swap too.

GAWDAYUM!!! that is quite the stable. Viper is my favorite American car. Just a freakin' wild beast. Caymen is my favorite car under $100. Your dad has good taste! Not a bad crisis to have. ;)

Well the Forever bass is the first bass I have owned that I actually prefer roundwounds on it. Slapped those Fender Tapewounds that I had loved on the last bunch of basses I owned and the E and A strings are just mud and D and G not that much better. I now understand the love of old roundwounds. Glad I saved the Daddarios I took off and didn't toss them.

Moving the strap button to the back of the body by the neck pocket definitely helps with the balance. If I didn't have 2 other basses that look very similar to it, I may have just kept it around as a bass to play at home that sounded fantastic, but since I have too many black basses now, seemed like changing it up for a classic P-bass in my collection would be a better use to me.

Get an old peavey with the super ferrite pickups. Your signal will be ballmazing!

either got snatched while loading out or I left it at a show we played like 2 months ago, I didn't realize I didn't have it until couple weeks ago. that's the trouble with having too many amps

Turns out, was absolutely worth it, nails the classic old school ampeg tone, and for a 350 watt SS amp, it get's surprisingly loud. Hooked up to heritage 8x10 and the volume around 3:00 (there's only 1 volume knob, like the original SVTs) it's loud enough for any normal band. Line out the preamp signal into the Carvin power amp with the 66 and it's more than loud enough for my band. Used it at a couple of practices, and that outdoor gig we did last weekend, sounded fantastic. And since I can run the internal power amp into the 8x10, I'm now able to bridge the Carvin at 3800 watts, which is super awesome.

Second, after about 6 months with the Hondo, I've decided that while I absolutely love the tone, I'm just not comfortable playing it. It was most noticeable at stoner pop band practice the other week. Fine enough for sitting around my apartment, but when an actual practice came into play, not digging it, plus the 3-point bridge just sucks, and can't be swapped for the hipshot (slightly different size). Coupled with my EGC, and G3 that's in the works, I really didn't see the need for 3 black double cut style basses. So I looked around and found a very reasonably priced Aria lawsuit P-bass from 1977, as while the Hondo sounded better than my 78 Fender, the P-bass was much more comfortable to play. Gonna swap the pickup from the Hondo into the P-bass and then sell the Hondo. Don't have it yet, but I should be getting it sometime in the next week or so.

I had one of the SVT-III's and sold it like a dummy, because I was a dummy about amps and tone back then.
You're going to like that Aria.

Between the Caymen s and the Carrera 4s, the Caymen was the better car. Less total power out of the box, but the power to weight ratio and handling make up for that. First sports car that I have been ok with not having a full manual gear box in.
