Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I think that's true of all the Japanese jazzmasters. My friend got custom pickups made for his.

If I had liked everything else about the guitar, I probably would have just replaced the pickups. At the time though, I had very little use for any guitars and needed more $$$ for recording gear. I do love Jazzmasters though. When I bought my Sound City B120 that was my main amp for a long time, I was coming into a shop to buy a Jazzmaster that was on consignment. I happened to find the SC and it was the same price, so I walked out with it. I've had a lot of false starts on getting a cool Jazzmaster.

Last night I played around with the Boss ODB-3 I bought off Nick for a few minutes, on guitar. Sounded pretty cool, I was able to get a pretty thick and dark tone, which I like. Haven't tried it on bass at all yet. I want to try it out with my Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone. Been thinking about going full King Buzzo and just picking up a MXR Dyna Comp to try out with it as well.

Should have kept your Beta head for the full Buzzo Trifecta.

That Joyo Dyna Comp has been tempting me.

It was awesome, but I only loved it for the built in distortion. Running pedals into it was pointless for me. I still have my Dunwich preamp and my Crest power amp, which will work great for guitar if I want a similar feel without going really distorted and can be MUCH louder.

The used Dyna Comps are so cheap, I haven't even bothered looking at import copies.
