Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

That is a sweet DFA 1979 clip, so psyched that they're back together and making music again. Also, that is a cool Dan Armstrong bass. I wonder what pickup he has in there, looks non stock.

The servers walked out of there every night with more in tips than the hourly kitchen staff made working 6 nights a week. I loved being a line cook. It was controlled chaos. Work hard, play hard, take no s*** from the floor staff. It was a pirate ship. Best i ever saw was the chef cut off a pushy waiters tie and threw it across the line onto the grill.

I traded it for a good salary and benefits. I still get to have a taste of it though since I cook all the meals at work. We have a six burner commercial Thermador stove/oven and just about anything stainless i could need or want.

Mountain album came with a band pic I assume (that dude on the rights definitely a mountain) and song and lyrics book with facts about whales and sailing ships lol.

I can't tell if the guy in the back has his hand on his side, or is using that dudes fro as a rest, as his eyes seem closed in a feck you get outta my hair kinda way.

Guy on the right is Leslie West, yo. Ripped some great lead guitar from a Gibson LP junior through a Marshall stack.

A pirate ship is the perfect example!

I once saw a delivery driver insist that our chef take a big case of strawberries that were starting to mold. Chef wasnt going to pay him for it. Driver started getting belligerent and I told him it was time for him to head out. He shoulder checked me and told me and the chef to fuq off. As he was reaching to pick up the case of moldy fruit Chef whipped this paring knife across the kitchen in to the box about an inch from the drivers hand. He lost it and took off. The owners of the distributor and the restaurant decided it was better to settle with the driver and not screw a million dollar contract so no one went to jail. Yeah it sounds crazy, but the chef is psychotic and very very good at his job.

In the 90's they reissued that bass with a music man pickup. Think that is one of those

Edit: looking thru images i think all those reissues had wood bodies so I haven't a clue.

Upon closer inspection, it looks like a Dan Armstrong pickup, just humbucking rails instead of single coil they all have. Maybe he had it custom made by somebody. I don't think the bass models had the little swap out scoop and alternate pickups with them like the guitars did. I know what you're talking about with those wood body reissue models, they look totally different than any of the originals.

Akai Headrush 2, pretty fun delays and the looper is super simple to use. Easiest out of the five or so loopers I have owned. I like how you can click between the delays and looper modes with your feet too. I need to find a thin walled adapter for it though. The one spot ends are too thick to get in Akai's hole :smug:. I robbed the adapter for my Roland drum machine and that works perfect. Not sure what brand single use pedal adapter to get for it.

Glad you dig it! I just use a standard boss 9v PSA...never had any issues.

This is my first season of not caring after a lifetime of being a fan. There are just not enough minutes in a day to do everything I want to and have to do so the NFL got cut. I'm a Chiefs fan anyway so football season always sucked for me.

I'm much happier now.

I think I probably have the smallest boards on here now. yeah it's was stupid loud in the store and kinda tubby sounding so I thought I would give it a shot. Keeps good lows and I just want a cheap pedal so I can get louder and wooly. I run the demon pretty hot to get the tone I like. It's like at 2:00/max/2:00 so the boost needs to be pretty loud since the demon is never turned off. The nice thing about the demon is it's doesn't squeal but also no feedback.

My old band played a show with a band whose guitarist was using one. It sounded great. Apparently, it was Ted Nugent's signature head in the mid 80's.

Well, yesterday's practice was weird. Everyone was sort of absentminded, we changed a lot in the tracks I thought were ready to go, phone recording apps were farting out and I think we need something better to record our practices.
Also, it was the first time I tried my new P/J with flats in band environment. Well, it won't beat the J in a few songs, but it's definitely a keeper. I rolled off the J pup and it got wonderfully low and thumpy, actually, it was so cool that I'm not using any effects on a new track we're just completing, just thumping away Geezer style. The only thing is, I don't know if I want to carry two guitars to every practice...
Choices, choices, choices :D
