I tried a 135 on my p bass and that was ridiculous too me...such a big string. I can't even fathom how big of strings Ron uses. I don't know if I could play those portable chainsaws.

135 Low B for me. I've tried up to 142 in B. I believe Ron is around 190, could be mistaken. He's also tuned WAY lower than B. heheh.
Also, GAS'ing HARD for a Mesa Bass 400+ right now. Uggghh. It's either that or build a SVT'ish, ~300wattish amp myself. A tall order, but probably doable.
I'm getting rid of this stuff if anyone's interested:
Genz Benz 410XB with nearly new Eminence Legends
ESP J-1005 5 string bass. Flame maple/Ash body, maple neck, Hipshot hardware, EMG’s.
Various power and pre tubes
Peavey Classic 120/120 All tube rack power amp (only in partial trade for a Mesa Bass 400+)
Electronic Drum Kit - Alesis DM-5 "A to E" kit.
Acoustic Drum Kit - Ludwig/Zildjian
Monte Allums Ultra TriGain Modded Boss DS-1
Morley A/B/Y
Digitech Whammy II
MXR Fullbore Metal

I so wish they'd make a String worthy of B or A for the 30" scale.
Last few days I been rocking every scale length and the small scale just meshes so well. I need to ignore this and focus on my p bass I feel like as I learned on one, and coming from it any 4 stringer is easy peasy imo.

Dude A# NEEDS a .135.
And a hail Satan to that. Just put .136-.57 TI flats on my sb2. Sounded thin until I realized all that sweet bass content was filtered out with my Eq settings. I fixed that quick like.
I always used the D'Addario XL set with a .100 E string when tuned EADG, so when I first got my Peavey set up for BEAD, I just used the five string version of the same set, which came with a .130 B string. I liked it, so that's what I've used since.

Those are suspension cables, not strings. Do you have to modify your bridges to get the action high enough so that it doesn't sound like Fieldy?

The RD was sold when I got the EGC, but it is the same strings/tuning. Kalium Strings .190 .146 .107 .079 tuned F A# D# G#
Those are suspension cables, not strings. Do you have to modify your bridges to get the action high enough so that it doesn't sound like Fieldy?
The bridge has to be top loading, mostly for the .190 as the string is thicker than the ball end, so you can't route it through a bridge or do through-body stringing.
But otherwise no extra mods, my RD and my EGC are both 34.5" scale, I tried a couple of 35" basses but never found them comfortable. With a good setup and properly gauged strings the extra low tuning sounds just fine.
A wall of speakers a lot of power from my amp helps too.
