There will be taxes on this. Considering it will almost match my "day job" earnings, I am OK with that.

Well then, never mind what I said earlier! If my earnings would nearly match my day job, I'd LEARN MORE FUNK! I enjoy funk quite a bit actually, but I just don't play it. Totally different than what I play, and wish I could play it better, because it's fun. No bands around here that I know of though.

Do you like Red Fang?

I'm definitely a metal head, so the metal part is big for me, yes. And I've heard of Red Fang, heard a few of their songs, and end enjoyed them. Should have remembered them! Is Bison the same as Bison B.C.? A friend gave me some of their stuff, but I haven't listened yet.

Tone? You want muff circuit. What's your budget? They start around $50 and go up from there. What's your bass/rig?

I've got an Ibanez SR506 (and 505), and GK 700RB-II, with a GK Neo 410. For "muff", I have a Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh, which is being fed by my JohnK Gamma Bass Overdrive. Really liking it for a full, "round" fuzz. Sounds much better with the Gamma than my B3K, since both Pharaoh and B3K scoop mids a bit. What do you think?

This won't interfere with my originals stuff, but right now there is not a lot of opportunity to play out with it. In terms of covers, dance/funk is more appealing than mid 90's rock.

Dingwall probably looks less out of place in a funk environ. So there is that!

Most of the people in here are playing with tube heads or old school SS heads. Pretty much the Tao of the stoner doom is: old school head with a new high tech cab. The camp is split between 810 guys and dually guys. And max's peavey hoard.

IMHO you're gonna have to really tweak knobs to get you setup sounding the way you want. Maybe look at a preamp? Meat smoke or something?

I find that branching out in what I am playing makes me a better player. Metal has increased my speed and accuracy, S/D has made my riffs better/tighter, funk made my groove/rhythm better. I get bored doing the same thing, and this makes me a more well rounded player.

Actually outside of the flamed top, I think a dingwall fits really well. Some of the super J and P basses would be excellent.

Yeah, Meatsmoke is out of my price range. I've definitely got treble cut on my rig, and keep it pretty low on almost all my pedals and other options. So that's mostly taken care of. Bass is also typically boosted, with mids boosted slightly less. I'm thinking the key might be my JohnK Gamma Bass Overdrive. It's very vintage sounding (i.e. NOT bright) and can totally change how my rig sounds. It's my newest addition, and I'm still tweaking it with the BAT Pharaoh. Any recommendations for the Pharaoh itself?

Something you should keep in mind is your tone is the sum of part. Any tweak in your signal chain can effect how other pieces interact.

Pick ups change? Pedals need major adjustment.
Amp or cab change? You may not like how your bass sounds.

I know that is simplistic, but starting that tone quest can be difficult.

Recorded last night did our new guitarist's parts and I redid bass parts on 6 songs. One is 9+ mins. Our drummer hooked us up. It was at the studio that the bassist of From Beyond works at. It's also their practice space. Mother of god there was some gear in that place! Leslies, organs, moog, piles of Marshall heads and cabs, tons of bass gear including a Sunn coliseum... It was ADD bassist gear whore heaven. It was the perfect mix of nice but kinda dumpy looking. Best line: "there's coors in the fridge and some trees around here...somewhere..."

Anyways:

Dirty tones came from my Fuzzrocious darkest driving> Orange Terror> Ampeg 610. Clean tones were from a DI and a Marshall JCM bass head and 412. It sounded GOOD. Can't wait to hear the mix!
Long night though. We went from 8p to 3a. Nap time soon.

No, I definitely agree. I LOVE my amp's sound. My idea has always been to get a nice mostly clean amp, and color it as necessary with pedals. So that's my amp. It's not going anywhere. I can get plenty doomy/stonery with it, just thought you guys could help tweak more, since you're the resident experts around these parts. I'm happy with my rig, and think that the Pharaoh will work out wonderfully (it already has!), and figured you might be able to help me fine tune something.
