Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

30th birthday yesterday. Mom came to visit. Took a few days off work. She made me a ton of beef stroganoff and baked a cake. Went and saw a movie had a few drinks. Pretty low key. If they weren't here I probably would have went to see Skeletonwitch and Ghoul. It was nice to visit. It's also nice not to be hungover. Mom is headed back to Cali.
Drinking coffee about to have some biscuits and gravy.

I'm getting into some stoner stuff lately, so I thought I'd ask for some recommendations. I have The Sword, Spiritual Beggars, Grand Magus, Weedeater, Bongripper, Electric Wizard and Orange Goblin, but am looking for more. Suggestions?

Also, tips on how to get a more Sword/Grand Magus sound would be helpful! Thanks, gentlemen!

Search the interwebs for Deutchland's Doomed Compilations. I found Vol. 1 and it's chock full of bands you have probably never heard of.

Sat in with a different cover band last night. This band plays 2-3 shows a week on average. They are looking at some line up changes, and I have been interested in joining them for some time. They have a huge draw here, and get paid for it. It would mean dropping my current projects, but these guys are tons of fun and are a cash cow. Sure it is more covers, but that is already my money making band. Their set list is more dance\funk oriented, opposed to rock. Have to hear back from them, and figure out how to move forward.

I'd rather play (and have) dance and funk. It's more fun to play and more people seem interested. I quit a original for for covers before but the original band was kinda on its last leg.

I'm in the opposite boat. Dance/funk? No thanks! I enjoy playing funk, but would NOT want an entire band of it. Though, of course, the money aspect would be tempting. Right now, I make no money playing out, so that isn't a consideration. But truthfully, if I don't feel it, I don't want to do it. That's my advice, however.

Tone? You want muff circuit. What's your budget? They start around $50 and go up from there. What's your bass/rig?

This won't interfere with my originals stuff, but right now there is not a lot of opportunity to play out with it. In terms of covers, dance/funk is more appealing than mid 90's rock.

See I love funk. I love heavy music too, and I won't let go of it, but if I want to play out, it has to be something else. I make decent money playing out right now, but this would be trippling that.

Depends on the money angle for me. No way would I join a busier band that "has it's act together" if it meant filing taxes on that income. Some play money that uncle Sam doesn't know about? Hell yeah we can cover polka, doowop, dance, funk whatever. If I got to write poopie down besides a set list and key changes I'm out. No drama for me and cover music.
Truthfully though I'm not interested in cover bands.

There will be taxes on this. Considering it will almost match my "day job" earnings, I am OK with that.
