Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Cool small world, yeah if it's turning easy I dont think your have any issues. Since it seems like you haven't tried it before slow is the way to go. Plus it lets the wood adjust better. Some time I'll get it straight and a day later it's back bowed. So just keep a close eye. Also don't be afraid of the first turn it will probably make a little noise.

Got the bass home and had a chance to tweak on it a bit. The nut on the truss rod was all but wobbling free, had to give it at least a full turn just to encounter any resistance at all. Kept going until I felt a normal amount of resistance, the neck is already about 50% there, so it's looking good. I'm very comfortable with standard truss rod adjustments, I'd just never brought a bowed neck back from that far gone before. All the electronics check out. It's strange; the white finish is already noticeably fading to yellow, the metal hardware all has a thick matte layer of dust and grime on it, the bottom of the body has the usual minor finish chips… but the plastic is still on the pickguard!! this thing really was bought new, probably hauled around from residence to residence without a proper case, but almost never played. I'll fix that.

Yeah my neighbor just wanted a witness I guess and to not mess up his brothers house that he's been renting for 20+ years. Its weird I've learned more about him in the past 48 hrs than in the 4 yrs we've lived next to him. One of my neighbors bought me a bottle of nice scotch and a card that said thanks for being awesome. Really sweet of her. Me and the misses pretty much killed it yesterday night while talking about

As for 810s I've never thought a good one seemed weak. They deffinately have a niche sound though. Very different from 15s. And they are very directional. Personally I love the sound of a dirty bass tone through an 810. But a good 215 running a clean tone really fills the room.

Damn so the dude 86ed himself? Or did he survive? I can only imagine how traumatic that must be for you and the witness.

810 dirty and 215 clean is how I'll be running my rig. 4 pro into the 810 and my Eden 550 into the 215 maybe with another 2 115s for a nice clean and tight lowend.

Oh believe me Id buy a Peavey 810TVX given the chance...

Id trade the ampeg for two 810tvx's or a couple of the peavey 412tvx's. A guy from St. Louis had one and a sound city head/412 cheaper version. I forget his name. But he dropped off to get a new job...

He led me to the S&D thread via photo of him with panda nipple tassels that I found not searching S&D or him that's for sure. Needless to say I got here though.

Sounds like it was unavoidable, nothing could of been done. It's usually a leap to get to the choice and go through with it, as in "spur of the moment" decision must take place and the fact he didn't want to dirty the place can only mean he's undoubtedly been unhappy a long while.

Hopefully he's no longer suffering.

Well, had practice two nights in a row and, surprisingly, everything went well. We've straightened out a lot of stuff and systematized a lot of things that were accidental in our songs. As of now, we've got two tracks almost done, so I think it's a good result for 2 months of irregular work from a mix of rusty dudes and noobs that we are. Hopefully we'll get two more ready till the end of the year and record it all sometime December/January.

Also: getting my white P bass pickguard today, I'll finally get rid of that piece of poopie looking fake tort I got on it. Man, who thought that a mix of metallic black and tort would look good? Utterly hideous.

Nature of my job I've seen stuff like that before. It was shocking that it happened. S***** that he did it in front of someone. But it wasn't surprising. I'm just glad he didn't take anyone with him. Or do it in front of any of the neighbors kids. He didn't make it though. Put a bullet in each lung. That's a hard way to go. Not quick or painless.

Had practice for the first time in 1.5 months last night. All previous songs still sounded tight. It was a pleasing discovery as I was expecting a ****show. Also have a new song to learn that I think is going to simply rip. Another band decision that was made was to learn a crap load of Sabbath. Apparently we are going to be playing a Sabbath tribute show every couple months to make some extra cheese. Could be corny , it could piss off some Sabbath purists, but it could also be totally awesome. Either way I will have a blast playing the tunes and that is really all that matters to me anyway.

Where would you play? I'd see a Sabbath tribute.

Last night was NPD. That Green Russian clone I got new on ebay for $65 shipped. Works great and sounds great. I was going to buy the GGG Green Russian kit but it would of cost me more money.

Yea that's a bit weird, like he wanted your neighbor to really watch it all go down. I wouldn't think it's that common for those who opt out to double tap... Is it?

Got a few more responses to my CL ad. One "I've never heard of those bands but..." and one "Check out my guitar playing at..." nothing to do with the bands I posted. Another one likes the right music but he's under 21.

So first guy is looking like the right choice.

I say you go with under 21 dude. Just so we can place bets on how long he'll wait before he asks you to buy him and his buddies some booze.

If that's the case I would keep going until it's got just a bit of bow and let it sit for a couple days. That will speed up the process and IMO think it's safe. Sounds like it was just super loose and shouldn't be a prob being tweaked.

That drop this week or a teaser? I gave up after vile but their last album was really good
Pretty sure it's been out for at least a week.
This is a full album someone uploaded.
I was going to preorder it... but I forgot. haha. Anyways, I'll be buying it and a Tshirt.
I've been off and on with their new stuff. There is no slow track on it, which I was hoping for. Either way I really like it. Not sure if I heard the last one or not. I know I listened to Evisceration Plague. It's got some 80s-90s feel thrown in there. Riffs galore.
