Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Erm, not quite. As far as I'm aware, it was a wah, either a Vox or Tychobrahe (not sure if they had the Tycho's for the first album or not, I haven't seen any firm info)

That may be. My information is the Feb/March 2004 issue of Bass Guitar magazine. They didn't specify make/model just "phase shifter". I guess they could be wrong though. I assumed it was a Phase 90.

Dae Grohl has turned into a complete d-bag thoug. can he be more full of himself?

This is kind of what I've heard about him for a while now. I had a roommate/bandmate that went to high school in VA for a while and had lots of friends that knew Dave. In the time between Nirvana ending and Foo Fighters really taking off my roommate was back there visiting and a few friends wanted to go see what Dave was up to. The reaction was "No, all he does is talk about himself and Nirvana, I'm sick of it."

So yeah, that's just an anecdote from one person 15 years ago, but that what I've heard.

Khanate won, gave me a little gloom with my doom.

Dave Grohl makes a lot of cool music and seems friendly, but he has the fakest humble guy persona I've ever seen. It's like the internet decided to made it a cultural meme that he's super humble and down to earth, because he has a huge smile and shrugs after he says something smarmy. I'm totally ok with him being a rockstar that just makes cool music, he doesn't need to be the salt of the earth. He is not the salt of the earth, he spends way too much telling people off and dispensing life advice in public. There's no piece of advice he could give that would useful beyond "Be talented, awesome, persistent and lucky" or "Be Dave Grohl, if you can help it".

I have no patience for this utter bullsh*t. We're all going to die, who has time for small amps and smaller minds?

Edit: It appears that G&L does sell them in their online store. Last few times I had visited the site they only had L2k pups. They are cheaper than I had anticipated, still $80 I don't have.

Edit2: Sold out of the neck pup and the bridge is $80. NVM affordable :(

yeah, you really have to keep your eye on the website for those. Or troll Ebay for junked Tributes, which have US pickups in them :)

Quick shot of some stuff I got at home currently. My Fuzzrocious LED Demon/Grey Stache, the fixed up Rat2 is back in action and sounding ratty (thanks again mbelue), the previously mentioned limited/special edition Earthquaker Devices Grim Reefer, and a Minifooger Delay.

The GR is pretty cool, real pronounced octave effect on high strings, not an all the time tone for me, but still very cool. And sounds nothing like my other dirt/fuzz pedals so it's nice to have some options around.

how's that MF Delay? looking to add a delay/reverb to my setup but don't have the money for a real moog. the RE-20 is the biggest contender so far.

It's great, it's dark without being muddy, very musical and sweet sounding. Having owned almost every version of the Moog delays I can say it does get the dark washy repeats that I love from their delays. If you don't need tap tempo or modulation there are no other contenders IMO.

Here's rough mix of one of takes from our live session we'll be using on the demo, I think the drums could come up alittle, my rhythm guitarist could also be turned up a little, and my lead guitarists solo section is little loud other than that I'm satisfied, I'll post the other song soon, I was using my Bassman pro300 into my 4x15 peavey cabs, my peavey t-40, super collider and nano small stone.

This morning I went for a walk around my parents neighborhood and had the sheriff called on me...

Sheriff: you're not in trouble, but people see you just walking and it's suspicious... What are you doing?

Me: Just walking

Sheriff: Well people have had security issues lately.

Me: I know, my parents live here.

Sheriff: You don't live here? Why are you here then?

Me: Visiting my parents...

Sheriff: OK but watch yourself, it's weird to just walk in the neighborhood...

I think the weird lady who drove past me 8 times, then asked if I'd seen her dog called him. Probably because I wouldn't give her my full address, but shag her she's not a cop. She had a clearly truant kid with her otherwise I would have told her to shag off, or tell me where she lives too.
