Need common options around $50. DI?

I'd look for a used Shure PG52, might be a little more than $50, but but you're really taking a gamble with any other brand at that price point.

Edit: just reread the post - kick drum mics aren't always the best choice for recording bass guitar. If your buddy has a 57, you could use that plus a DI and get pretty decent results.

I've read for future reference you can create a pretty decent sub lows mic out of a speaker wired backwards fitted in a tom shell, good for bass or bass drums in conjunction with a standard 57 or other trad mic for the straight tone or click etc your going for.

I wouldn't recommend using a kick mic for bass. They tend to have a built in eq curve that's suited for modern kick sound, which doesn't translate to bass very well. Any decent quality, general purpose dynamic mic will do pretty well for bass. Very few mics cut off low end, it's not much of a concern about it being "bassy" enough.

My crate has a Celestion CL2P-80 in it "custom made for line 6"

Must be a replacement unless they are mutually owned company? But any idea what that speaker is or the specs?

Edit: G12P-80 : They are OEM Celestion Seventy80s with a Line 6 sticker on them...

Hmm so time to look into that speaker same question of opinions and should I get a different speaker for bass vi?

Hey sam...how do you like the 810 loaded with eminence legends?

i think they are great. much better than the original CTS square backs and Eminence speakers. I also prefer them over the non-heritage 810 speakers that Ampeg has been using over thal last 10 years or so. I believe the heritage 810 use the legends or something very similar.
