Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

They aren't coming anywhere near me... Why would they go to salt lake city and Denver (no offense), and skip Texas, austin or my Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex which is one of the most populated areas in the US. San Antonio and Houston are even bigger. I think only LA and NYC are bigger...?

Maybe, just maybe they don't want to risk running afoul of Texas' draconian drug laws, conservative redneck police/state patrol and random stop and search checkpoints. Just a thought...

Getting cabin fever, and today was my day to get out and its raining... Vat Dur Hellen

I have like 3-4 EW live albums from the 2002 U.S. tour an ex found for me, they leave something to be desired, but no idea how they were recorded. I don't plan to see them anyways as I don't want to spend what they probably charge. Also I want to hear fanatics and earlier stuff with the original bass player. The new lineup probably focuses on newer stuff.

We don't have random stops that I've ever heard of or encountered. Now they do have border patrol stuff down southhhh and that's where they'll do sort of random searches, when you go through their depots, but they always flag the vehicle through anytime I've been there so never experienced one.

My grandpa was saying they do random stop/search here in South Carolina where he in on the Charlotte NC border.

Are you back in America? Or just checking in.

In ireland now, wifi at the hotel. I have a friend that regularly travels from upper Michigan to Arizona and has encountered random checkpoints. He doesn't go through Texas anymore.

Saw EW on the big pants tour in 2002 and they were awful. I was blasted on fungus, beer and green, should have been awesome, they were just no good. Jus was an ******* to me and my friend as well. I've been a non-fan ever since. There's so many better bands out there than e-wiz.

MI to AZ, requires going through i assume the Panhandle if you got to go through TX. They probably stopped him to ask why the hell anyone would come to the panhandle lol. I kid but that area is nothing but cow poopie.

95% of Texas is nothing but cow ****. No offense. You seem like a legit dude, but in my extensive experience traveling Texas, most of the state totally sucks. I also hate the outrageous Texas pride and ultra patriotism of many of its residents.

I do like San Antonio though.

See I grew up in the capital city, and now live in an even bigger city, and it's not even the biggest (San Antonio is).
The cows and agriculture exist, but I'm 100% removed from that day to day. They exist around my areas outskirts but probably 99% are purely there for Agriculture based tax exemptions as they tend to be herds of maybe 5-20 head grazing not the massive nasty stanky feedlots and slaughtering grounds travelers no doubt see as they are passing through great swaths of land out in bum shag nowhere same as any other area like Iowa hogfarms or whatever.

My day to day is city suburbs and city scape, sky scrapers etc. but I appreciate the fact my state has everything from sandy desert, to deep woods, swamps and ocean and so many cultures.

Not mad or anything, I just know most people travel through and that requires them going through great areas of land mostly off the beaten path in the panhandle or west non desert areas and assume that's what we're are all about. When In reality any sane person in Texas doesn't step foot anywhere near their unless they are getting paid as its all feedlots and ranches.

This short clip from Bernie explains it perfectly especially if you keep in mind the "5 states within a state" mentality.

Edit: that restaurant in the video is delicious, and about 45 minutes away from the austin in a country town known for sausage.

So, euro trip update: we've spent the last two days in county Tipperary in Ireland, based in Cashel. Holy poopie, it's amazing. Ruined castles, churches and Abbeys everywhere, incredible natural areas, good weather (compared to home), really excellent food and super nice people. London was ok, cool to visit but pretty much like any other big city. The food there was some of the worst I've ever eaten. I get now why people say British food is so terrible. It's not just because they like weird stuff like kidney pie and jellied eels, it's because everything is legit awful. I don't understand how someone could shag up a hamburger so badly but they found a way. Everything we tried was terrible. Ireland on the other hand, has incredible food. I consider myself a foodie (even though i hate that term), and I've eaten at some really high end restaurants in LA, Chicago and Boston for work functions, and Ireland has seriously good goddamn good.

Anyway, off to York tomorrow for a couple days, then back home.

I guess the smart english left centuries ago to go find good food and colonizing naturally took place, because they could bear to go back ha.

What's you eating in Ireland?

Played what felt like our worst show ever last night. People still seemed to dig it but man I am bummed out. I dunno what was going on with our guitar player but he just plain ole sucked the whole set. Didn't help that somehow we got put 4th on the billing and had to follow Wolf Council. Holy shvt those guys rule. Bass player is one of the best I have ever seen. Some of their songs he was playing the solo's that typically would be played on the guitar while the guitar player held down the rhythm. Lookin forward to their first album coming out soon.

That's rough, Rushing. I've played a couple of stinkers in my day, usually it sounds a lot worse to you on stage then it does to the audience.

Guitar player in my last band would get super, super nervous and miss changes, bomb solos, forgot where he was in the song, luckily the drummer and i were on top of it and could keep up with the unexpected changes, but that only goes so far.

Worst part was after the set, he'd be embarrassed and feel bad and start telling everyone that would that would listen how terrible we were.

I had to pull him aside and say "when someone compliments your set you say thank you, nothing else, ESPECIALLY if that person is a staff member of the venue."

We didn't get asked back to one place, even though I know the owners, we bought in a shitload of hard drinking people and made the bar a ton of money. They complimented us, then guitar player went on for ten minutes about how much we sucked. Guess he convinced them.

Man my family here is embarrassing, Ike 1/3 of them are on disability and brag about it and idk what the hell they deserve it for, none seem to be ailing.

Two things.

How could you be content with whatever paltry sum that could possibly be if you had any function in your body you'd think you'd go out and earn.

Two, how much are they making you think? My aunt has a full TV package, eats out all kinds of stuff. She has Internet, but I consider that something everyone should have. Regardless, they just seem to be living too well for what seems to be just really sleepy lazy people.

what? how is that even possible?

Dude idk I don't even care if the gman reads this is and goes and busts them somehow.
They all have or had an issue at one point, but they don't live in pain, have 100% mental and physical use...

Joes migraines are more serious than what these guys ail from.

Does disability pay vary state to state? A friends mom back home lives in squalor and she's legitimately really disabled.
