Total mindshag today.
I started seeing this bird who I somehow successfully chatted up at a club a few weeks back. I took her out on a date this evening and got to know her a little bit. Eventually we got onto the boring topic of hobbies. She's mad into bonsai trees and quilting/craft - cool, whatever. I tell her I'm into music and play in a couple bands. She tells me "Oh, that's cool. My dad used to play in a heavy metal band back in the 80's". This intrigued me, so I asked her who he played for - assuming she either wouldn't know or the band was nothing more than a garage band or sorts. She says her dad played for Slaughter Lord.
A bit of background info for those not in the loop, Slaughter Lord were a cult thrash metal band who were pretty massive in the local Sydney scene back in the 80's. They never released a full length but they did release a demo which somehow founds its way and blew up over in the Scandenavian countries - so much so that At The Gates covered one of their songs. Point is, they made quite a name for themselves despite never releasing any concrete material.
"**** off!" I bluntly spit out. "Your dad played for Slaughter Lord? I played their demo like 5,000 times throughout high school!". She laughed, but probably more at me than anything else. I risked sounding like the biggest fanboy and asked her who her dad was in the band. She tells me her dad is Anton who played guitar in the band.
The biggest mindshag here is that Anton runs the very rehearsal and recording studio my current bands play at. All this time, I've been drinking beer and pulling cones with Anton from Slaughter Lord and I've never known.
But now it gets tricky...do I tell Anton I'm seeing his daughter? He's a mad bloke and all but surely he's got to have some reservations about who dates his daughter. The stories I've shared with him won't be earning me any "Boyfriend of the Year" awards in his book either.
