reggieincontrol-1.jpg

scene girls on the otherhand, are a different story lolol :p.

Scene Guys = Hair Metal Guys for the younger set.

Axl Rose used to wear more makeup than most girls wear to the prom.

Sponge Bob...that show annoys the cr@p out of me.

Manga...So...its ugly anime. Ugly, annoying anime.

Emo...Whine, whine, whine. Dude, your mascara's running.

The new Pop music...Sucky, sucky, sucky. Disneyfied Unto Death. GAG!!! That goes for Pop Country, too.

Texting...Dude...YOU ARE ON A PHONE!!! TALK, MAN!!!

Cars that have GPS, backing-up warning systems, and dvd players...These kids can't read maps, parallel park, or enjoy the scenery on a trip?

Now...GET OUTTA MY YARD, YA DANGED KIDS!!!

LOL!

Cherie :)

Thought of another one...

Souped-up rice-burners...

They'd rather have a Honda with nitrous than a Chevelle with a motor that doesn't *need* nitrous...

A little-bitty tin can instead of a car that looks like art...

I don't get it. Prolly never will.

Oh, and what's the big fascination with absinthe? My son's friends all think its very cool. Guys? It tastes nasty, and you're not even getting the real thing. Go drink a beer.

Gotta say the teens here on TB seem to have their stuff together more so then the general population of video game playing cake eating emo hairdo having crappy music listening kids. Maybe is has to do with bass playing:)> Had to give the youngsters some props.

Actually LOL, I would say that the bass playing directly corresponded to our maturity level. I know three other bassists at school and they are all mature and mellow. However, there are about ten guitards that I hang out with that are egotistical, hyper and immature.

I see a pattern here. People shoot the tools for the uses people make of them.

My generation does a lot of blogging, social networking, stuff like this. These things have more than one purpose. I regularly read a couple of designers' Twitter entries because they share their recent discoveries or reflexions, which are very interesting. But then, flooding the web, is a mass of self-centric twitter users who have nothing more to do than tell the Internet how their day went.

One thing I see about the older generations, is that everyone has a car. Two cars. Three cars. And I'm not talking about automotive enthusiasts. People have more than one car per family member, counting the baby.

Some will buy a HUGE Chevrolet Avalanche to get the groceries once a week and drive the kid to school.

This doesn't make any more sense than zealous social networking on Internet, or tight pants. But people do it. Out of boredom, to feel secure, or because they think it makes them a better person. Or because everyone does it.

My problem with Twitter is this...

I already have a MySpace.

I already have a Facebook.

I can barely keep up with either of them. Now I'm supposed to get Twitter, because the boss likes it and everyone at work has it, or for whatever reason?

No! I won't do it! I've had enough. If someone wants to find me, they can go to MySpace or Facebook or send me an e-mail or call me on the phone. I refuse to Twitter.

Will. Not. Twitter.

I've reached my networking limit.

I refuse to Blackberry or Bluetooth for the same reason. I am already "connected" enough. I don't want to be more so. This is actually keeping me from working as a secretary/admin though. The managers are young now...younger than I am. They want me to have a Blackberry and be Twittered at any time...stay connected. For temp jobs, no less!

No way. When I'm off work, I'm off work. Period. I don't want the office Twittering me on the Blackberry that is stuck in my ear like I've been assimilated by The Borg, just to bug me about something they want me to come do in off hours. Frak'em. I've got a gig/I'm watching a move with my daughter/I'm having a beer with my hubby or friends. I'm "connected" during work hours only.

Manga = Japanese comic books...Last I checked almost all animes are born out of their manga counterparts.

Without Manga there are no animes.

Really? I thought it was the other way around. My daughter is a big fan of anime, and she's gotten me to watch some of it with her. I love the beautiful anime movies...so gorgeously drawn! I've never read the comics, but the manga 'toons on tv annoy me. The huge mouths...creepy. And the constant shouting and screaming...not for me.

But she enjoys the manga comix, certainly, and I let her. Just like Mom didn't bug me about AC/DC or Rush until I blew the speakers out on the stereo console. (Big thing...early 60's.) Then she let Dad show me how dissatisfied they were with me. God, I never worked so hard in my life than when I worked off those speakers!

Yeah some of the anime styles annoy me too...Especially in English.

Yeah take Naruto for instance....There where about 120 good episodes and then 30 really terrible ones, and then back to good ones.

There where 30 terrible ones because the anime got ahead of the manga and had to start writing filler plots.

The fact that your is HS, and play a Geddy let alone know who the dude is says a lot IMO. There's this 17 year old kid in my area I am friends with his dad..we were talking about the Beetles and his son said " yeah I think I know them, don't they have a guy named Gringo in the band" His father was awe struck, you mean Ringo dude? When I was your age I knew all the oldschool bands... some kids do, but most don't. It's amazes me. ;)

My son uses a cell phone, but has learned to dislike the phenomenon of being always-connected.

He saved up his money to take a girl he was interested in to a dinner in a nice restaurant, and a first-run movie with all the snacks, video games, etc.

She stayed on the cell the entire date, talking to her friends and texting!!! How rude!!!

He never took her out again. If you ask me, he should have walked out on her in the restaurant when she wouldn't get off the frakkin' phone.

Yeah, it is better in Japanese. My daughter likes to watch the Japanese versions of her faves online. She knows all the songs, too, and can sing them quite well. By the time she graduates high school, I think she will know how to speak Japanese!

No offense to you or your daughter, but the anime kids of today, are like the dungeons and dragons nerds of your time. They are the kids who get shoved into lockers and get picked on.

I'm 18, and I can't wait to graduate. I'm joining the air force this fall. I live in rural southern indiana, and I cant believe all of the scene homos we have at my high school. It makes me sick. I get made fun of because all my music is "ancient." All of those kids are pussys, because when they say something smart and I walk over to kick some ass, they scatter. Oh well. I've been working real jobs since I was 13, and every little bit of gear I own was bought with my own money. I wish the cell phone was never invented.

I am actually ok with all of those spoiled lazy kids at school, because I will be the one getting jobs down the road, while the are sucking off their parents' boobies. I have a good girlfriend, she knows how to cook very well. she makes this dish that consists of potatoes, cheese, more potatoes, and bacon. All of this is then grilled to perfection.

I don't dress like an emo. Right now I'm wearing a Freedom Isn't Free T-shirt, some carpenter jeans and boots.

New music really sucks. Have you seen a modern day EVH or Geddy lee?

Sorry this is long, but I wanted to show that there are still some normal kids out there. We are just a dying breed.

Young people do many things that cause me to question their judgement, standards, values, etc. I'm quite certain that 15 years ago, I inspired similar feelings in my elders. While I am alarmed at the general lack of interest in forming a cogent sentence, linguists I speak with regularly are fascinated by the emergence of localized memes and jargon. As far as the rabidity of youth social networking, one can always opt out of it. I choose to have a very low level of social commitment/engagement because that is what I am comfortable doing; I can't assume that a person ten years younger than me would share those same values.
Everyone is welcome to hang out on my lawn; just be polite.

The reinforcements have arrived!!!

I have to say that this "newspeak" is what bugs me most about kids. When I hear teens interact with each other they sound like the most ignorant and uneducated slobs. I realize and know of a few teens who are articulate...intelligent, but get them around their friends and it seems like articulate and intelligent translates to nerd or suck-up. You have to sound un-educated and rude or have an attitude to be cool.

Just today on Public Transit (bus) there are these two teenage girls I hear on their cell phones and they just sound really un-pleasant...like they are bothered to be called (what do you even have it for then?) *Phone Rings* "Yeah"...."Naw"...*Ya gotta call his phone*. Just the most rude....unattractive tone of voice....like you're too cool for school...little miss thang attitude. Your attitude sucks. If a girl talked to me in that tone of voice I'd run far away and hide.

I thought you had to be "old" to join facebook?

I'll add ANY social networking site to the list. Good for bands to get their music heard, and for companies to promote their products, but other than that...
I don't need 12,000 "friends" that I can't talk to in person at least once in a while. I don't care about what's going on you life, Mr or Ms Friend Collector; in fact, I would probably find you very annoying in person and would avoid you like the plague. Now please go away. :p

Typical conversation with a blog user(and one I've actually had, several times):
"Oh my God! When you get home, you should totally read my new blog on facebook about what happened to me the other day!"

I'm right here; why don't you just tell me now?

"Well...it's on my blog."

Riiiiight.

There's a girl at work even worse than this. She updates FaceBook from her cell phone now and then at the end of the shift (we are sort of a captive audience then) she reads us all her updates.

Give me a break....Who the **** really cares?

Well for starters, I am 23 and hate a lot of what I see in my generation and my little brothers generation (hes 13). To put things in context, however, I am a United States Marine and have very strong moral values and conviction that are different from any group of individuals in any point and time in American history. But at the same time, I am a rock/metal guru and music is my life and passion outside of the Corps, so I have a very good idea and representation of the two extremes in modern society.

There is a lot of crap that kids do these days, but as far as I can tell, every generation has its fair share of fat kids and "scene" kids. Less we forget disco of the 70s, pop rock/hair metal of the 80s, and yes, lazy ass bums in the 90s (read generation X). Generation Y (my generation) has a lot of potential. We have seen our nation attacked first hand, we've seen a technology explosion, a boom in knowledge and education, as well as received the guidance and love from our parents, the "baby boomers."

I think America is going to be OK when my peers take the reins to run the country. In fact, I think it will be the most prosperous time period in American history to its point. Only time will tell

As far as music and television go, there are some AMAZING bands and television shows on right now. Mastodon, Baroness, Electric Wizard, Lamb of God, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Sword, TOOL, Arch Enemy, The Black Crows, Heaven and Hell, Black Stone Cherry, Children of Bodom, Clutch, and many many other incredible bands that aren't "trendy." A lot of these bands pay direct homage to those who influenced them and openly say so. If anything, Ive seen a boom in the popularity of 60's and 70's rock as well. My little brothers favorite bands are the Ramones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Guns N Roses, the Misfits, and Buckethead just as an example.

People have been complaining about the youth since the Romans. Funny thing is, we're all still here 1000s of years later and nothing has changed. Humanity will continue to grow and prosper and kids will always be kids
