Stuff you hate that young people like.

Damn straight. There's nothing you can organise on a social networking site that you can't without. Most of my friends just play games and send each other pokes... or whatever the lame stuff on there is.

I have pages on myspace and facebook, but they're completely blank. I only use them when some one insists I have to go to their page for info about something.

Adding friends and requesting to be someone's friend on public sites. Like someone above said, why do I need 12000 friends on my YouTube page, none of whom I'll *ever* correspond with? Example? My son's middle school jazz band played a festival a few weeks ago and my son, who we're proud to say is first trumpet as a 6th grader :D, got to do a few solos. So even though all I had was my cell phone I took some low quality cell phone video clips so our families could see them. Now I have a bunch of 12-14 year olds asking me to be their friend and also trying to post typical teenager YouTube comments, which I refuse to approve. So now they're submitting more posts (which I of course won't approve) telling me what a d-bag I am for not approving their moronic, insulting comments and for not adding them as friends.

I also just heard about the "Twitter" site recently and that's one I'll just never understand. What kind of egocentric moron is so full of themselves that they feel the world is improved by them telling the public about the most inane minutia of their lives? And the bigger question is what sort of pathetic lacking-a-life loser actually subscribes to those blurbs and tingles with excitement anticipating the next mind-numbing cyber-grunt from the egotrippers?!?!

Now get off my lawn! :p

I see a pattern here. People shoot the tools for the uses people make of them.

My generation does a lot of blogging, social networking, stuff like this. These things have more than one purpose. I regularly read a couple of designers' Twitter entries because they share their recent discoveries or reflexions, which are very interesting. But then, flooding the web, is a mass of self-centric twitter users who have nothing more to do than tell the Internet how their day went.

One thing I see about the older generations, is that everyone has a car. Two cars. Three cars. And I'm not talking about automotive enthusiasts. People have more than one car per family member, counting the baby.

Some will buy a HUGE Chevrolet Avalanche to get the groceries once a week and drive the kid to school.

This doesn't make any more sense than zealous social networking on Internet, or tight pants. But people do it. Out of boredom, to feel secure, or because they think it makes them a better person. Or because everyone does it.

Lets see, I wear skinny jeans, but you guys did in the 80's. 90% of the music that I listen to was made in the last 9 years, you just have to look for it, amazing musicians that are pushing boundaries in every direction.

As for things that I don't like.
Anything made in China. That stuff sucks harry ballzak.
Emo kids
Twitter (I do facebook to keep in touch with people, it is easy. I don't mind the whole blog thing, but when you are limited to 141 characters, that just shows how shallow our societies thinking has gotten.)
Mainstream music
Video games, all of them. They are the spawn of Satin and should banned.
Television
Work ethic (I work with Mennonites, I have to work hard.)
Text speak. Learn to spell, write and form sentences. If you don't, it isn't a complete thought and that really shows when I am talking to you.
Lack of financial responsibility, but that goes for many adults as well.

I am 20.

lowsound

Or because this newfangled "music" is just noise.

If it's sounding like noise, you might need to get your ears checked out, gramps. ;)

You can't judge an entire generation of music based on a) your personal preference), or b) the limited exposure (probably through radio and television?) you're getting to the vast quantities of modern music. :)

+1

I like the cut of your jib.

When someone says "********" to describe something they don't like, or when a person is called "********" when he does something bad. Lets not forget :te pour grmr + splng ov kds tdy. And what does imrohl or whatever mean?

I do feel the need to say that anyone who says "there is no new good music" is looking in the wroooong places, or perhaps just not looking hard enough. Some of the best music I've heard has come out in the past 5-10 years. It's not stuff that's spoon fed to you; you have to put forth some effort and find it. There are some real diamonds in the rough.

Care to make a list?

Only thing I really like that has come out of the past few years is "The Mars Volta" and stuff that has been established for years ie: RHCP...or a throwback to older styles Ie: Derek Trucks

Let me add that I hate Twitter...****ing stupid.

well you know, im 16. i wear hawaiian shirts. not to tryv and be cool, but casue theyre comfy. and i wear dress shoes, not cause theyre cool, but because theyre comfortable. but i do not like new music, so basically anything written after like, 92'. im not cool, but im not one of those people who no body likes. but i dont like scene kids that for sure, or "cool" people

I don't have the time to sit here and type up every band that I've discovered in the past few years. Half the fun is finding them. Use Myspace pages, use the "evil" music blogs, branch out into styles you are unfamiliar with. Go to a record store and listen to anything that looks remotely interesting, go on iTunes and use the Genius feature to find new stuff. Look up shows in your area and get out there to find out what's happening in the scene.

I just get angry when I see people say such things because I see it as an insult to all the musicians out there today raising the bar and carving new paths. Many of these people aren't big touring acts playing sold out stadiums. They are a bunch of guys/gals in a van traveling from city to city wowing people who take the time to seek them out.

There are new musical styles being developed every day that are fresh and innovative and like nothing you've ever heard before. The music of the past was great, but that doesn't mean that everyone in the world has given up on creating something awesome and new.

Edit: To give a quick example, I just played a show this past weekend with two other bands, Otis Grove and The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Both are innovative, interesting, and sound incredible! And neither have been around for over 10 years.

Ohh I've seen plenty of good bands and I know there is good music out there...I wasn't trying to be confrontational, more looking for.... check out these guys, those guys, and that dude they are all sick....which is one of my methods for "going out and finding them"

Haha it's all good, man. I don't really have any music on this computer so its harder for me to just start listing people off the top of my head.

The (mostly black, sorry :() kids that wear the pants down on their hips with their underwear out (and not all of them are "kids" :rollno:).

This has got to be the dumbest looking suposed political, social, fashion statement ever!
What's next? Sweat socks on your ears?!?!

These dorks, in twenty to thirty years, are going to look back (assuming the 'bangers" live that long) at photos of themselves, just like the former Disco, Michael Jackson and Members Only freaks do now, and say..."What were we thinking?!?!? We looked like complete idiots!!!.

And you do. :eyebrow:

Never was a fan of the phrase "My Bad".
Always sounded stupid to me.

Gotta say the teens here on TB seem to have their stuff together more so then the general population of video game playing cake eating emo hairdo having crappy music listening kids. Maybe is has to do with bass playing:)> Had to give the youngsters some props.
